Morey... Dave Morey taking suggestions. How much you wanna bet we get the same set we got 2 years ago, except the new Jack White/Alicia Keys QOS theme will replace Chris Cornell's Casino Royale song?
Here's the set we got in Nov 2006:
1. John Barry Orchestra - James Bond Theme
2. Shirley Bassey - Goldfinger (BEST OF SET!!)
3. Wings - Live and Let Die
4. Duran Duran - View To A Kill
5. Nancy Sinatra - You Only Live Twice
6. Carly Simon - Nobody Does It Better
7. Chris Cornell - You Know My Name
8. Herb Alpert - Casino Royale
9. Sheena Easton - For Your Eyes Only
10. A-Ha - The Living Daylights
-
My wager is that we keep the Chris Cornell song & we get one random subsititution, well actually two since I agree we're likely to get the latest addition as well.
-
I like the Duran Duran
-
My wager is that we keep the Chris Cornell song & we get one random subsititution.
I still have that set on cassette; it's one of my favorite Morey theme sets of all time (and also the gayest Bond-theme colection imaginable). And I'll restate my opinion that the White/Keys QOS theme is an unholy mess. The Cornell theme wasn't bad but it hasn't been heard anywhere in the 2 years since.

I only got around to watching Casino Royale last month, so the song is still fresh in my mind.

John Barry: underappreciated genius.
-
Duran Duran making an early appearance.

"The name is Duran... Duran Duran"

definitely. I have his soundtrack to "The Knack .. And How To Get it" If anyone is interested. Hit me up private message style.

WOS White/Keys. Little Steven has been playing this for a couple of weeks, but I think it's awful.
-
Can anyone come up with any Bond themes of the past that didn't make it in the set above? I'm sure there are a few. So far we haven't heard anything that didn't appear before. (Actually I just thought of one--didn't U2 do a Bond theme?)
Personally I'm looking forward to the Carly Simon.
-
BOS to almost everything they can play here. I have a soft spot for James Bond movies. One of my earliest memories is seeing "Thunderball" at the Drive-In in 67.
-

You beat me to this point.
So this is the White-Keys collab? First time I'm hearing it. And probably last.
I'm sure we won't get Cornell, just as we won't get Gladys Knight's underrated "Licence to Kill."

wow -- Duran Duran weren't even born when that movie came out!

I take it that this is the
unholy mess
, right?

Besides "Licence to Kill," there's Tina Turner's "Goldeneye," and the one Garbage did.

Tom Jones' "Thunderball(s)" would be great to hear

wooo hoooo Goldfinger!

Ms Bassey's "Diamonds are Forever", which I heard on WLNG yesterday (but I'm sure "Goldfinger" gets the nod from Dave --and here it is! BOS2).
U2? -- I Don't think so. But Alice Cooper's "Man With the Golden Gun", which WASN't from the movie, is pretty swell.
-
BOS, "Goldfinger", natch.
Shtrict rules of golf, Goldfinger?

"No, Mr Bond -- I expect you to DIE! BWHAHAHAHAHA!"
-
BOS3 Stan Freberg's "GoldNoodle"! BHWAHAHAHA indeed!

BOS4 A-Ha's underrated "Living Daylights", a huge European hit that flopped on the US charts

Louis Armstrong - On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Rita Coolidge - All Time High (from Octopussy)
A-Ha - The Living Daylights
Matt Monro - From Russia With Love
Tom Jones - Thunderball
Shirley Bassey - Moonraker
Lulu - The Man With The Golden Gun
Tina Turner - Golden Eye
Sheryl Crow - Tomorrow Never Knows

Was wondering if that's what this was. I'd banished it from my memory. Not as bad as the current Unholy Mess, but not my fave of the genre.
-
I had totally forgotten about Madonna doing "Die Another Day" - 2002, right?
Co-BOS to Bassey and A-Ha so far.
-
I have to agree with Urth, hearing this a-ha theme twice in 3 yrs is plenty.
-
did you catch Peter Hartlaub's recent Chronicle piece on Bond's worst moments (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/11/09/PKTH13RI8G.DTL)?
He hates Sheena Easton's song. I can see that.
-
Carly Simon is my 4th fave Bond song.
"Goldfinger", "Live & Let Die" & "You Only Live Twice" in that order for 1-3.

At the time, I was at ABC, listening to Capital Radio (via satellite) on a daily basis, and they played the hell out of it (no wonder it went to #1 in England). So it's a somewhat fond memory.
BOS5 Carly "makes me feel sad for the rest" -- a college radio buddy of mine thought that line was hilarious.
-
Ah, this is better. From the Bonds-friendly 70s, when the latest theme seemed to make the charts on a yearly basis. BOS Nobody Does It Better.

Moby did a cool version of the Bond theme in "Tomorrow Never Dies"

BOS Live & Let Die
-
Macca was inevitable, I suppose, in this ever-changing world in which we live in. ;)
-
I was just about to posit that "L&LD" would be the set closer, but obviously now I'm glad I hesitated. Still BOS #4 tho'.
-

listen to it with really good headphones sometime, and you'll hear him sing "...in which we're livin'". It's hard to hear, but it's really there.

BOS Live & Let Die
Nice video of Paul performing it live:

BOS6 Sheena. Peter Hartlaub can kiss mah black ass!
-
Love the Live and Let Die theme, but I have an unpleasant memory attached to it as well. When McCartney toured in '90, I had front-row seats at Memorial Stadium. And when they did this song, every time they reached the crescendo, they'd set off huge flashpots that I'm sure looked great from the back of the stadium. Well, they were about 15 feet in front of me. And they set them off like three times. So I was temporarily deafened, and I had one big spot burned into my vision for the next two or three songs.
Other than that it wasn't too bad. :o

I noticed it, but I didn't get it.

Tina! er, Gladys! ;D
-
Tina!
actually... Gladys. Best surprise of set! BOS7!
all in all, another very gay Bond set. mshray was right: 2 substitutions from last time. (We lost Cornell and Herb Alpert)
-
Dare I venture a guess this is the Gladys Knight theme? The chords on the intro borrow liberally from Goldfinger.

a really fine entry in the genre that shoulda been a big hit, IMHO.
-
Wow. Anyone going to Quantum today?
Gladys is awesome.
Shirley and Duran taking top honors.
-
Dave's recap mentioned 2 votes fro Stan Freberg, and one of them was mine!
-
Far better than the White/Keys theme is this hilarious parody "Quantum of Solace" song from some British guy. VERY funny.

"The thingy of whatsit" LOL!

I'll see it eventually -- reviews are mixed.

1. John Barry Orchestra: The James Bond Theme
2. Duran Duran: A View To A Kill
3. Nancy Sinatra: You Only Live Twice
4. Jack White/Alicia Keys: Another Way to Die
5. Shirley Bassey: Goldfinger (BEST OF SET!!)

7. Carly Simon: Nobody Does It Better
8. McCartney & Wings: Live & Let Die
9. Sheena Easton: For Your Eyes Only
10. Gladys Knight: License to Kill
Bonus Track: Rosalee in for Annalisa asked "What is M's secretary's first name?" the answer: Jane. ("Moneypenny. Jane Moneypenny.")
Rosalee said "I'm going to pass up Madonna's Bond song," so the winner got to announce Johnny Rivers' Secret Asian Man theme song.

So the Chris Cornell "new one" and Herb Alpert's Casino Royale theme we heard a couple years back got axed in favor of the Jack White/Alicia Keys New One (no surprise) and the Gladys Knight License to Kill theme. Glad we got Gladys, but I'd have much preferred keeping Herb Alpert and letting the new Unholy Mess fall by the wayside. :)

Just saw it. Strongly recommend (http://10at10club.com/forum/index.php?topic=287.msg90112#msg90112).

Tuned in early for the replay, and Big Rick just played "the unholy mess"... which we're gonna hear again in about 20 minutes >:( >:( >:(
I guess KFOG is actually putting the song into regular rotation, which is more than they did for the White Stripes better stuff. (Or the Chris Cornell Casino Royale theme 2 years ago, which got played on 10@10 and promptly disappeared, iirc.)
ETA: and here's AC/DC's "Highway to Hell", which is challenging "Wheel in the Sky" for Most Played Oldie of the Month ::)
-
11/14/08 - Bond....James Bond
10. Gladys Knight: License to Kill
OK, please tell me I'm not crazy -- I didn't notice this morning, but on the replay it seemed quite clear that Gladys was deliberately mispronouncing "kill" as "KILT" -- I mean, WTF? Was that some sort of "I'm a Mormon so I can't advocate killing" thing? Go find it on YouTube and listen again. Bizarre!
Sean Connery, of course, really DOES have a license to kilt:

"I'm a Mormon so I can't advocate killing"
Brandon Flowers of the Killers is a Mormon, so I doubt that.
