ev'ry kinda Palmer!
-
"honest men know that revenge does not taste sweet"
-
Early BOS to Robert Palmer. This song always makes me think of a Schwab employee who sent me a note about it when it played on Dave's Pride set in '97. Gil was a sweetheart who hung around with assholes. Would be neat to find out what became of him.
-
"honest men know that revenge does not taste sweet"
"and a King ain't satisfied 'til he rules everything."
BOS1 Palmer; BOS2 Brooooooooce.
-
It ain't no sin to be glad you're alive!
-
Bruuuuce! gets me reved up on a foggy morning!

BOS "Badlands"
-
WOS to "Hold the Line": musically it's fine, but the singer takes it way over the top, Pablo Cruise-style.
-

I had a T-shirt made with that very quote, and wore it to at least one Bruce show.
-
BOS votes for the first two songs; number three, not so much. However, the set has a real upbeat tone today, so I have high hopes.
-
HM to Neil Tennant, er, Al Stewart and his Time Possajizz.
-

Not a coincidence - the first half of the Morning Show was dedicated to songs that cheer you up, or, as Dave called them, "Mood Elevators". He even played the Partridge Family theme in its entirety.
-
In for the set, mobile momentarily. BOS Time Passages. This just works for me.
-
HM One Day at a Time
-
BOS "Badlands"
I've been to one Bruce show (Aug 03 at Pac Bell Park) and he played this -- not a surprise, but what surprised me was how emotional it was for me to hear it played and then sing along. Never considered myself a huge Bruce fan, but man that was fun and, of course, the whole thing a great show.
-
BOS for Al Stewart
(another reminder: he's playing at Berkeley's Freight and Salvage Dec 12th!).
-
BOS4 Harvey M. I cannot WAIT for the movie.
-
BOS2 and 3 to "One Day at a Time" and the then-swoonworthy Andy Gibb, "Shadow Dancing." This song was EVERYWHERE in my area when it came out.
-
SUPER BOS Mr. Gibb, Shadow Dancing. Bustout?
-
another BOS for the late Mr Gibb.

I was at that show (as were others here, iirc). Yeah, that was a great show--I never cease to be amazed at Bruce's ability to connect with the crowd, no matter how big the venue.
-
Hah! Andy offers to "make it rain."
-
SUPER BOS Mr. Gibb, Shadow Dancing. Bustout?
I'm sure Dave's played it at least once.
-
I'm out, going mobile to an interview. Wish me well!

Knock 'em dead, Alicat! Hope it goes your way!

BOS 2, obscure TP. Don't think Dave's played this one before.

Of course he also played Leonard Cohen's downer "Everybody Knows" for balance ;)
-
But here's your bustout: TP & HB's, Too Much Ain't Enough, off You're Gonna Get It.

I'm out, going mobile to an interview. Wish me well!
Break a leg, Alicat!

Too bad you missed his legendary shows in the 70's/80's, he'd tell long stories and really jump around the stage for four hours. Of course now you can (and should) see those on DVD or YouTube!

-
Is this the ladies-&-gentleman long verison? I was getting a cup of coffee & missed the first bit.
-
"long version?" JINX.
Note that Mike's & my post were time-stamped to the second & Urth's was one second earlier.
-
and here's the keyboard & spanish guitar noodling to indicate that it is in fact.
-
Applauding that three-way long-version jinx! You guys.

That's change I can believe in.

Applauding that three-way long-version jinx! You guys.
This is one of the few songs where Dave is actually more likely to play the long version than the single edit.

My god, could this set get much better? One more BOS to the Kinks, Rock & Roll Fantasy.
-
one more enthusiastic BOS for the Kinks, but I gotta jet to a mtg in Fremont.
Cheerio!

BOSwhatever, Kinks. This one touches me emotionally more than any other Kinks song except "Waterloo Sunset."
-
My god, could this set get much better? One more BOS to the Kinks, Rock & Roll Fantasy.

And a 78 OHW to finish up: Bonnie Tyler's It's a Heartache. Out-rasping Kim Carnes.

Yep, a 9-way tie. Only that damn Toto tune kept me from voting an across-the-board sweep.
And I know what you mean about 78. It's real hit-and-miss: it can suck or you can get a set like this one. Usually it's somewhere in between.
-
Hrm. That fool Webster came up with a lame question for the Bonus quiz (what was today's best of set?) but he did get the winning foghead to bite for a pretty rare Jam tune: Down in the Tube Station at Midnight, off All Mod Cons.
Btw, I hadn't heard Webster much before this week, but I gotta say, I would cringe if he took over Dave's chair on the morning show. Seems just a little cocky, and his start-stop herkyjerky vocal delivery is pretty annoying.
-
Much better quiz question:
Name the actresses in the tv clip Dave played today...

You have hit the nails on the heads. I'd say more than just a little cocky, and now anytime he speaks more than a sentence at a time I start mentally puncuating his discourse with commas, ellipses, dashes & parentheses:
"Blah blah, blah...blah blah blah - blah blah - blah blah, blah...blah blah (blah blah blah), blah blah."
Save me!!!

Haha, I *love* this as a symbol for a set that *works*.
