well, that '77 set on the Peak will be hard to beat today. But the Drive is playing ELO now, pre-set, and surely Bob won't go to that well again in the same half-hour, will he?

funny to hear that Nixon "I let the American people down" clip twice in an hour.

Damn! "Amie" -- I was gonna predict Pure Prairie League...

Ack!  I was inadvertently Deep-Tracking instead.  But at least I got a JS dose anyway: they Played On Love.

And followed it with Kansas, "Portrait (He Knew)" ... or, as Dave calls it, "Portrait -- (hushed voice) *He knew.*"

Enjoying '75 from home now.  I'd been summoned for jury duty, but was excused when I couldn't commit to a trial longer than three days.  Decided to exact a measure of revenge on the BMMB by coming home instead of going back to work.  Now I can finish my paper in relative peace.

Well, glad you're here, and sorry you missed the Peak's fab '77 set (see my recap).  here's Dwight -- his Katrina's on Fire!

Paul & Mlle. Kitty, together again. "It's like a relic from a different age" indeed!

my daughter is taking a Beatles course at UCSC, and we talked about it last night, somewhat in light of mshray's essay.  I still feel Paul was the lightweight Beatle, but the best tunesmith.

Here's a dumb question: Was "Venus and Mars" an operative metaphor for men's & women's different ways of thinking back in '75 (cf: the John Gray self-help books)?

HM to "Rock Show" at any rate.  I regret that I never had the opportunity to spend a day getting dolled up with friends in anticipation of a show.

Anyone else notice, and find it odd, that Bob and Dave both regularly play the title track from Young Americans, but not the far bigger hit "Fame"?

Some sub-connections in this set: Brooooce was followed by a song called "I'm on Fire"; Paul McCartney was followed by a song that refs "A Day in the Life."  Probably coincidental, but still cool.

I would say No, although they have (in a literary sense) always symbolized beauty (female?) vs. War (male?).

proxy poc bos: bad sneakers and a pina colada, my friend.

VHM to Rhoda Morgenstern, and to the last bit of soul the Doobies could wheeze out before being swallowed by Michael McWhitebread.

I don't find it odd: it seems to me that YA is more beloved by Bowie fans. It was huge at AOR back in the day.

Oooh, here's "Lorelei", so I guess not.  This would be my BOS based on what you guys reported the earlier songs as being.

I've never heard "equinox" pronounced with a short "e" before.

"Jive Talkin'" was supposed to be "Drive Talkin'"?

No way.

I've never heard "equinox" pronounced with a short "e" before.

both are okay, and in the Midwest I always heard the short vowel (at least for the album title)

Main Entry: equi·nox
Pronunciation: 'E-kw&-"näks, 'e-kw&-Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French or Medieval Latin; Middle French equinoxe, from Medieval Latin equinoxium, alteration of Latin aequinoctium, from aequi- equi- + noct-, nox night -- more at NIGHT
1 : either of the two points on the celestial sphere where the celestial equator intersects the ecliptic
2 : either of the two times each year (as about March 21 and September 23) when the sun crosses the equator and day and night are everywhere of equal length
