It's no myth -- but it *is* a katrina.

The anniv is tomorrow; guess Dave didn't want to do '89 on a Friday? Or else we're getting a special SF set to commemorate?

OMFG! Madonna, "Like a Prayer"!  BOS for a major rarity  (I think Dave's only played this once before, iirc).

wow, I'd almost forgotten that, despite his well-known fractured grammar, Georege H.W. Bush was a world-class over-enunciator!

If so it antedates the Db.  I'm calling it a bustout & MAJOR BOS.

Hmm... I was thinking it was played fairly recently. But whatever...  the looong version, too!

Perhaps a show of support for Madge in her "time of need", given yesterday's admission that she and Guy Richie are splitsville?

He just sounds that way after 8 years of his son.  ;)

If she's in need, I'm Bill Gates. I'm sure she's being comforted by her A-Rod and her staff, as it were.

You got me wonderin' but I checked even the '89 sets since I updated & it's not in there.

WOO HOO!!!!

2nd Major Bustout of set: The Cult!

Only complaint - shouldn't "Fire Woman" have immediately followed Madonna?

Where's Tinka???

To answer an earlier question, today I have cast official votes with Dave.  Yes 'votes' - two for Madonna & then two more for The Cult*.

*voted by phone for Madonna & then sent an email from my Yahoo! account.  Then Dave shocked me even more, so I voted by email from my work address & phoned in a vote - in a deeper voice, mind you - for the Cult.

BOS3 Sweet Lou, "Dirty Blvd" -- This LP was one of my fave 2 or 3 of '89.

and we got an uncensored "suck"!

Okay, so there are definitely some Katrina's in this set, but any '89 set that has Madonna, Cult & "Dirty Boulevard" is an instant classic.

"Somewhere a landlord's laughing 'til he wets his pants."

"Give us your tired, your poor: let's piss on 'em.  That's what the statue of bigotry sez."

A little vitriol with your coffee anyone?

VHM Bonnie.

Wit'cha, Mike. This was one of the better songs on Nick of Time--and didn't get near the airplay that several others did. Written by Bonnie Hayes, who some of y'all may remember from her band Bonnie Hayes and the Wild Combo, who were a club mainstay around here in the mid-80s.

Proxy of Gaz, TFF, "STSOL".  This wasn't at all bad, several Katrinas notwithstanding. Hey -- we avoided FYC!

One more VHM to TFF and Sowing the Seeds...., just for its Beatlesque production.

Unless I miss my guess this TFF (VHM, btw) is tune #10.  Which means we had a set in the year of Katrina's* that was Katrina-free, and also included 2 major bustouts - and this was the first time Dave has played The Cult full stop.  Kudos & then some.

*there are 35 sets in the DB from '89, yet the following 7 songs have 70 appearances between them:

Good Thing
So Alive
Yellow Moon
Let The Day Begin
Orinoco Flow
This & That
Cruel, Crazy, Beautiful World

I didn't look at every set, but obviously the odds that any given set would be completely lacking any of them is very small.

I'm guessing that "No Myth" gets some 1990 spins too -- if you counted '89 & '90 together, it certainly seems like a Katrina.  And DelAmitri has gotta be closing in.  But yeah, given Dave's history in this year, I give him a B+.

My belated co-BOS along with "Fire Woman," which I'd say is my absolute favorite "hard rock" song.

PS to Wayback: Happy 1,000th post!
