LOUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!
TotHK & BOS#1: Intro/Sweet Jane from Rock & Roll Animal
-
...and women never really faint...
-
i LOVE the intro to this version, how the guitars keep climbing and then pause right before the main riff....
-
Sha-la-la!
-
Lou then Al, would 'Cinder' be next?? ;)
Maybe its Karma (or Kareem)

absolutely!
ETA: and it's exceedingly rare for Dave to lead off with an 8 minute track.

Cinder-Ella-Fitzgerald. Haha, good one.
-
Excellent set, though if he'd played the intro to "Musta Got Lost", it would have been legendary.
-
All together now: Proxy of Rod!
-
Mark, you beat me to it!

Ba-dum-BUMP

The Dan, man! Makes my Monday

BOS III -- all good so far. Oh, and 4 for the Dan.
BTW, this was the studio version of "Musta Got Lost" -- you have to wait 'til '76 to get the live intro from Blow Your Face Out!.
this is the wooba gooba with the green teeth
LET ME IN!

Beware the savage...what? yore? yawl?

Good tip. I'll have to pick that up. I just remember "Raputa the beauta".

Andy "Neil Diamond" Kim
what product was that recent TV ad that used this song, where various animals get in driver's car, including a coyote that accidentally eats a bird, but spits it out??
-
Andy "Neil Diamond" Kim
Totally. You could thrown in a touch of the Partridge Family for good measure.

Ya gots ta have some Court and Spark in yer '74 set.
ETA:OMFG, play through to "Twisted". Beautiful! Earns the BOS for the twin-spin.
-
yeah, I'll give the BOS to Joni. --- oh wait! nevermind! I give it to Out Of The Blue by Roxy Music -- one of my fave roxy tunes!
-
Extremely HM for Roxy Music, doing a pretty credible David Bowie impression on this track.

I feel the same way. If it was just one song from C&S, Roxy would win, but the satisfaction of the segue pushed Joni over the top. Besides, I was afraid that was the last song, so I thought I had to get my vote in fast.

Rapunzel!
Yeah. Hey Rapunzel. Hey Raputa! Raputa the beauta! Flip me down your hair and let me climb up the ladder of your love.

BOS Everything.
'74 just a kickass year for rock (and roll hootchiekoo).
-

heh, yeah, I can hear similarities... But I'm sure arguments could be made that Bowie did credible impressions of a lot of other artists, too. Not sure where his vocal style was when this Roxy record came out, but you could say Ferry was crooning from the get go. Bowie is a genius, but he's also knows just what to borrow to keep reinventing himself.

we used to giggle uncontrollably when he sang "come on little pussy, wanna do it to you."

I was thinking to myself that this is really a set for the ages. Not a stinker in the bunch. Buuuuuut, Reunion just doesn't work for me here. As amusing as it is, it's a letdown for me in this set.

Here's backstory on Reunion's "Life Is A Rock" listing all names mentioned in lyrics:

Did Gaz bail before Mr Kim? It's one of his faves. Looking forward to the replay -- and as to Bowie, I always thought it was "savage shore" but I could be wrong.

At least one source says "savage jaw". Could be...

That's funny, had no idea what he looked like, guess I imagined Bobby Sherman

"Jaw" makes more sense -- guess "Savage shore" is my "county pear" ;)

Until today I had never focused on how many artists are name dropped in this song whose careers were just getting started in 1974: Poco, Randy Newman, Steely Dan, ZZ Top, David Bowie.

Wow, indeed a great set. My gut says nary a bustout, but with songs that good who cares? I figured it was gonna be a good one. Mom's up for a visit and I had to leave for the airport before the set started, so missed the initial play. Have to try to catch the replay in a bit.

Tell me who gets a callout in this list before they call out a band he was a member of?
I confess I read thru the lyrics to figure it out, but it's right there: Donny Osmond, then a couple lines later the Osmond Bros.

I actually missed that, there's another one, less obvious. Obscure even.

OK, this time I had to consult AMG, so I suppose I should disqualify myself. So I'll e-mail you my answer.
(Btw, is there an artist in today's set who was also a member of this band?)

Beware the savage...what? yore? yawl?
I *LOVE* "1984" - it was my BOS, though I was getting ready for work and couldn't post - but hate the "savage jaw" line. It's too abstract and random a metaphor to get away with off-rhyming "four" like that. But he gets away with it in my book because those disco strings are so freaking FIERCE.
And Almost-BOS to "Out of the Blue," a delightful production (was Eno with them at this point? that might help explain the Bowie comparison) whose arrangement I've long wanted to kinda-steal for one of my own songwriting efforts. (I gave up songwriting when I realized that everything I wrote had to be set to the tune of something already extant.)
But agreeing with Dave on this verging on set-for-the-ages territory.

Nope, Eno split from Roxy after For Your Pleasure in '72 (check out In Every Dream Home a Heartache); Out of the Blue was two albums later, on Country Life. But otherwise the comparison is apt.

to avoid any further suspense - Urth wrote: "You were referring to Jeff Barry being a member of the Archies, yes? And Andy
Kim was also an Archie."
But actually I was referring to Leon Russell being a member of Ronnie Hawkins' band.
I think someone could write a whole Pop Culture dissertation on this song. I know it's been done with "American Pie".

Wow, so there were three different artists (that we know of) who were listed ahead of a band they played in in LIAR (BTRRM)? I'm gobsmacked, I tellya.
