Post by: RGMike on September 16, 2008, 07:39:25 AM
Yes, it's KFOG's 26th Anniv.  Yes, we're gonna hear the format-switch aircheck.  Yes, Dave's gonna play "Rock This Town"...

The end of "beautiful music" ...

pity the little old ladies who were listening to "that nice music" and suddenly had their world, er, rocked.

Damn. we didn't get to hear Roger Whittaker this time!

Did anybody hear that when it actually happened?  Did they really have the smooth-voiced dude announcing right up until noon, at which point the format switched?  Or is this bit contrived?

Yes.  I'm officially sick of this song forever.

Likewise.

I arrived a few minutes late; did Jim get a b'day shout from Dave?

Hey Rastermon, I love your quote.
I know that 10 is 2 in base2, but wouldn't it really be more appropo somehow to say people were either 0 or 1?
(no, this is not my strong suit, I'm just a dabbler)

VHM Saga.  I know others are tired of this, but I really like the "Zappa meets Starbuck" guitar/percussion solo

And we're heading back that way as we speak.  Merril Lynch, AIG -- we are in some serious economic trouble.

WOS Saga.  A less campy Styx, which to me defeats the point.

Yes.  I'm officially sick of this song forever.

A little harsh.  I don't hear it THAT often, and I really loved the album back in '82.  So VHM from me.

BOS, JJ, as always.

Maybe I'll like it again later.  There's something about 10at10 that brings out the curmudgeon in all of us.  It really is a very good record, but that week that KFrOG played it every ten minutes (about) soured me on it.

BOS for Mr. Gabriel.  Definitely on the list for best artist of the 80s.

I'll be the curmudgeon this time: I don't like this nearly as much as everyone else. If I want a Roxy imitation, I go for Icehouse. But it does get points as a Narada; this never got any play in NYC.

TANC: Heeeere's Roxy Music!

I agree, Geoff; the drawn-out romanticism is a commonality, but the Midge Ure/Ultravox comparison is, I think, more apt.

Not likely; I didn't send in a request. But since I wasn't listening, no biggie. First time I'd missed a set on my birthday since the year I moved to SF, but this year we headed up to visit some friends (also SF expats) who live at the mouth of the Columbia, over on the Washington side, so got a semiearly start.

And it looks like it was a pretty typical '82 KFOG birthday set. Would likely have BOS'd the PG, the Roxy, and probably Strange Advance. (Btw, for the record, I am down with the Ultravox/Midge Ure resemblance--I used to think that's who did this song.)
