have to go up from here, I much prefer J.J. Cale's original version of "Call Me The Breeze".

2 pts for the first person who can tell me what J.J. stands for.

Can't complain about 1974--one of my fave years!

And this version of Rebel Rebel is always good to hear, from the 45 I think (with the "li-li-li-li"s). Dave trots this out about once a year.

Did Eddie Kendricks have any hits this year?  I just heard a hip-hop song that samples the strings from "Keep On Truckin'," and it's put me in the mood.

Answered my question before I posed it.

At first it souded on my desktop boombox like interference from a nearby signal.

Early BOS for "Pure & Easy".

"Boogie Down" actually is a '73/'74 overlapper.  And I don't recall the follow-up to that. When was "Son of Sagittarius"?

Yay "Pure & Easy".

Ditto.

here's what Allmusic says:

1973  Keep On Truckin' (Part 1)   Black Singles 1
1973  Keep On Truckin' (Part 1)   Pop Singles 1
1974  Boogie Down   Black Singles 1
1974  Boogie Down   Pop Singles 2
1974   One Tear   Disco Singles 14
1974   One Tear   Pop Singles 71
1974   Son Of Sagittarius   Black Singles 5
1974   Son Of Sagittarius   Pop Singles 28
1974   Tell Her Love Has Felt The Need   Black Singles 8
1974   Tell Her Love Has Felt The Need   Pop Singles 50

"Keep On Truckin" topped the chart Nov 10 & 17 in '73, so it was probably still on the lower reaches of the chart by Jan 1 of '74.

Where's the Princess? This is the Genesis she likes. (Wonder if we'll get the triple spin, with Hairless Heart & Counting Out Time? )

Anyone besides Rod & me that are big SciFi fans & would be familiar with the classic Alfred Bester novella "The Stars My Destination"?

Set in a future space traveling society where minds can be read by the police, our protaganist is bent on committing a revenge murder.  He becomes wealthy & powerful and as part of his plan he commissions jingles for his companies' products until they come up with one that is SO catchy that it is literally impossible to get it out of your head.  He then deliberately gets it stuck in his head when he commits his crime, so that when he is mind-probed by the cops all they can get is the jingle.  This is only a small element of a sweeping & wildly imaginative story, but it exactly describes how I feel about "Rock The Boat".

Allmusic & Billboard don't agree with you, but I don't personally care if they're wrong & you're right.  Whitburn has it entering the charts the last week of January.  Maybe your radio station got an advanced copy?

VHM "Bloody Well Right".  it was supposed to be the B-side of "Dreamer", which was a huge hit in the UK, but A&M screwed up and switched the A & B sides in America. "Bloody Well" charted anyway but one wonders what would've happened had they gotten it, uh, bloody well right.

Ha ha!

No, but if I ever have to sit dwon for a lie detector test I am going to get this stuck in my head and give all kinds of slightly innaccurate answers & see if they can calibrate the thing.  I'm betting they can't.

KFOG actually played this during the morning show in the last week or so.  I distincly remember I was coming down the Sunol Grade & thinking "Boy, they sure shoulda put the 'where you never know what you're going to hear next' clip in front of this," and then wondering if there had been a subtle programming change?

Fully agree, but this is another case where Dave is all over one album by a certain artist (Court and Spark, in this case) and rarely plays anything from others (like Hejira or The Hissing of Summer Lawns, for instance.)

To put a finer point on it, we've heard at least 7 tracks from C&S by my count, but only Coyote from Hejira and nothing from Hissing...

For Mike's benefit:

The Joni tune was followed by Any Major Dude and I Shot the Sheriff.

And was there something else in there?

I went last night, but not much encouraging to report: game sucked, bullpen SUCKED, fireworks sucked (really--I expected much better--half of them were behind the scoreboard). Oh, and Jeff Kent is still a weenie. But we knew that.

Ali, what'd you say about Benito & autographs?

Why did they switch the game time from 6 to 7pm at the last minute?

Kent, small weenie, yeah..... Opening Day was SPLENDID. Could not have asked for better. Great weather, great friends, great game, expensive beer (only could afford to buy one).

I was at a game with my son a few years back. Went down by the Giants dugout where players sign autographs before the game. Andres Gallaraga was great, other players (I forget who, some young pitcher, maybe Foppert) were great. I have the magazine with their authographs. Benito was walking by and I hollered nicely at him and waved his San Diego card for him to sign. He would not look at me. I KNOW he heard me, I don't have a little voice. So, I yelled in Spanish. He totally ignored me. Another weenie.
Two years ago I went to a benefit lunch for one of the Giants funds and everyone was there. My fave was Rich Aurilia. I think I posted the pix here afterwards. He posed and signed everything. Magazine, card, ball. I treasure those. Yum yum. Later that season during a game, Rich was at bat, I was hooting and hollering with a girlfriend up in Club level, a little to the left of home and yelled HEY RICH, REMEMBER ME? The whole damn section turned and looked at me. Hilarious!

I heard Barry even signed for kids yesterday.

At that point Shawn Estes ran into the section and declared, "Girl, I *know* you ain't talkin' to *my* man" and did that ghetto sideways-head-bob thing.
