Title: 2 Sept 2008: 1984
Post by: mshray on September 02, 2008, 10:02:28 AM
Reflex to start - "Like an infection across the nation"

Dave continues his string of election years, and I can't help associating the above line with the Reagan years.

I was in my HR lady's office & she was tuned into KFOG just as the Time Warp came on.  I almost said something about being a big 10@10 fan & then caught myself.  The *LAST* person you want checking out this club forum is your HR manager.

Hearing Republicans talking about values always gives me a stomachache.

Is "Downbound Train" a Morey bustout?  I like it better than most of the BITUSA singles.

Speaking of Republican values, how about Palin's 17 yr old daughter turning up 5 months pregnant?

Well, whatever works, but I wouldn't personally condone using this to smear the ticket.  I think I heard Barack taking the high road this morning -- a candidates children should be off limits in a campaign.  Which is the proper (political) move, even if it's BS.

My point would be that this is exactly the kind of family values you get all across the bible belt.  And since they are a nice suburban white family it's okay.  But can you even begin to imagine if Obama's daughter was 17 yrs old and the same thing happened?  No way a pregnant unwed teen black girl gets a personal approval message from James Dobson.

ETA, I would love to see some demographics on the correlation between states that are staunchly republican and teen pregnancy among whites.

EXACTLY!  And what Dems are missing here is that there's a shitload of trailer-trash Fundies out there. Gay marriage "threatens the American family" but pregnant teen daughters are OK as long as they don't have abortions. And Palin so *totally* fires up those people -- they thinks she's the bee's knees.

and -- TANC -- here's "A Girl in Trouble"! Bwahahahaha!

I'm sure they do charitable work with unwed mothers, like helping them get their start! (ol' Steve Martin joke). Now let's hear "A Girl In Trouble..."

Wasn't it Bob who "accidentally" played the uncensored version of this recently?  You can't say "Shit" but Frankie can "cuuuuuuummmmmm!" LOL!

reminds me of the old Carlin line "you can prick your finger... but you can't finger your prick"

a preponderance of relative rarities makes this one of Dave's best '84 sets in some time.

And to top it off Annalisa really only gave the quiz winner one choice:  The Smiths "How Soon Is Now?"

(which Dave has only played once)

I made an announcement on my GD list about the Dead reforming for an Obama benefit in Pennsylvania on Oct 13, and got some angry email from a McCain supporter that his SYF stickers were incompatible with his McCain stickers on his Jimmy pickup truck.  So no, I don't think there's any broad based GD/McCain group!
