HM from me. My crystal ball foretells Kenny Loggins' "I'm Alright."
-
BOS Gary Myrick, but this is as much a frequent-flyer as the previous 2.
-
Is it our 20/20 vision?
No, but a BOS anyway.

Let's hope your crystal ball is not-so-crystal.

I'm down with the BOS for this one. Hard to believe this was classified "new wave" when it came out--it seems pretty mainstream now.
-

No, but a BOS anyway.
Recast as a country-western song, it would be: "She Talks in Stereo, But She Gave Me Mono"

TANC: your selecting that pic is something I'm experiencing in reality right now--we've got squirrels raising hell in our filbert orchard, so we've got to figure out a way of ridding ourselves of the little vermin.

WHOA!!! ATBB and BOS to the Tempts, "Power"!!
-
1980: the last time America cared about hockey.
WTF is this pow-a-poom-poom thing? Temptations?
ETA: oh, yes! "Power". I've heard this maybe once before. BOS2 for bustoutyness alone.
-
WHOA!!! ATBB and BOS to the Tempts, "Power"!!
ATBB for sure, and very cool. Big BOS from me.

Yes, but dresses look better on her!
MJ sure is Off The Wall
-
BOS3 "Off the Wall".
-
I love it when Dave's in a 1980 R&B mood. Doesn't happen nearly enough. BOS2 to MJ, which might also be a bustout.
-
WHOA!!! ATBB and BOS to the Tempts, "Power"!!
Here, here! This out-BOSes the rest of the set. And safe to say an absolute bustout.
-
< wouldn't it be amusing if we all had Issac Hayes avatars?!
done.
and BOS to the Po-Po's song, which a friend once thought was titled in jibberish French mondegreen, something like "Divah Toot-See-ay"

All we gotta do now is paste Black Moses' head onto Scarlett's bod for Shray.

Excellent! That's a great way this club can honor DA MAN!
and Xanadu to you too! ;)

but I'll have to find one that has him with Scarlett Jo ;)
...otherwise you all start complaining.
ETA: I see once again Urth is reading my mind.
-
VHM the Xanadu commercial. Worst. Musical. EVAH (even with stiff competion from Can't Stop the Music and Mamma Mia!). But the song itself woulda been cheezy fun.
Jon & Vangelis? BOS4!

And don't forget Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It's up there. And my wife loves Mamma Mia. She's going to see it for the third time tonight. Cringe...

I'd prefer the upbeat 'alabama getaway'!

Have any of you ever seen the early seventies remake of Lost Horizon? Inevitably ranked as one of the worst moives of any genre, and I actually saw it in the theater on its first run.

"'when the smoke has cleared', she said..."
But the smoke *never* clears at a Dead show! ;)

Alicia Keyes, no?

forgot that one, since sadly I've never seen it -- Liv Ullman and Peter Finch SING!

Yes, Alicia Keyes, at least from Scarlett Jo generation.
-
HM for Althea, one of my favorite down-tempo Dead songs.
I'm with you Davefish. I think I'm up to BOS 5, which means this is prety good set for the year in question.

"the Dakota hotel"?? It's an apartment building, dude. ah , NY's Finest...

Oh My God, Mike, hie thee to your Netflix queue posthaste.

Alicia Keyes, no?
Yes, but spelled Keys.

and we close (?) with one of Dave's fave 1980 Katrinas, EB, "MITB".

BOS Althea. The best!
Ginger will also visit 80 this week me thinks.

This is the first I've ever heard of it! Netflix has been flooding me with ads and intro offers lately; maybe it's time ...
VHM to Eng Beat watching themselves while They. Are. Ea. Ting.

Yes, Alicia Keyes, at least from Scarlett Jo generation.
Not only that but she costarred with Scarlett Jo in The Nanny Diaries. Not nearly as bad a flick as I thought it might be, but then again Laura Linney is incapable of bad work, and Scarlett is incapable of looking bad.

John & Yoko in 1980...

tomorrow, in fact.
OMG, we're not done -- more '80s Soul! A record for Dave, it seems. VHM the princess of cairo's favorite lech.

Wow, a 1980 set with both MJ & GB in it, pretty much songs I danced to every weekend during my freshman year of college.
-
VHM for "Gimme the Night". A stunning set for 1980.

I'd have thought that was tune #10 too, but it only seemed that way. Now we really close with another K from the Princess' fave lech, Georgie B.
-
Memo to George, though: You really don't need to double the solo in scat formation on Every Single Song.

Fave lech JINX!

I worship Laura Linney. Saw her on B'way in April in the Dangerous Liasons revival, she starred opposite some incredibly hot British guy.

Second to Althea.

Someone set their recorders on STUN tonight; this one was a set for the ages.

BOS ALTHEA. Yup, listeners know best, thanks Dave.

Well then you should see Nanny Diaries, I know you also like Paul Giamatti & he does a really nice turn as Linney's icky husband.

Throw in the new & different Olympic Hockey & Lennon assassination clips. I especially was glad to hear a hockey clip that didn't end with Al Michaels.

VHM for "Gimme the Night". A stunning set for 1980.
And a George Benson/John Lennon connection; released shortly after "Abbey Road", Benson's jazzy covers of Abbey Road tunes. I still have this LP:

it's no McLemore Avenue, to tie things up with an Isaac Hayes (well, Stax, anyway) connection:

From when Benson was known only as a pretty hot jazz guitarist, long before Breezin' turned him into a vocal sensation.

I broke the law to make a cell phone call from the car to BOS Althea!

Then there's this 1980 item in today's news. Rot in prison, loser:
Lennon's killer denied parole for 5th time

While I agree with the sentiment, I'm amused by Yoko's argument that she wants to deny him parole because he's "safer" in prison ('cause another disgruntled Lennon fan might kill Chapman in revenge). She's a slick operator, that Ono.
