First time in ages. Dave's soliciting suggestions via email. Apparently he's unearthed the demo version of "Telstar".

If it's Joe Meek's demo, it's one of the most tone-deaf, unlistenable creations in history. (Yes, I own a copy.)
But it's been a long time since Dave went Strictly Instrumental, so I shan't complain. Glad to not have reminders of the MLK assassination, at any rate. I'll put in initial hope for Paul Mauriat's "Love Is Blue" and the Electric Indian's "Keem-O-Sabe."
-
Y'know what would be cool? The New York Dolls' cover of "The Courageous cat Theme".
-
This is the most predictable (not bad, just predictable) instrumental, so now we can look forward to some surprises.
-
Good start with "Classical Gas", but I'd be most impressed if he followed it up with "It's a Gas". But then, nobody would have voted for that one.
-
I'm mildly surprised that a whole bunch of Fogheads voted for "Scottish Tea". I thought that was strictly a Dave-fave.

You mean the Mad Magazine thing with the burps? They played that on Oldies 1510 this weekend!

You're assuming Dave is scrupulously honest about vote-counting?

but if Dave wanted to make my day, he'd have played "Hibernation" off the Double Live Gonzo album.

Yep, that's what I was thinking of. Didn't know it had anything to do with Mad Magazine, but it makes sense.
-
And Scottish Tea at #2. Just the thing for a case of Classical Gas.
I'm betting we get Ronnie Montrose's Town Without Pity before it's all over.
-
Ladies & Gentlemen, the SHORT version.
If Dave is going to play "Fire On High" in a set that by definition has no commercials, movie clips or news, then he should damn-well play the full intro.
-
I'm kinda bored. Not by you guys! By the music.

I'd never heard it before, but they said it started out as one of those flexi-discs inside an issue of Mad. One of the musicians on it is sax great King Curtis.

If there was a big crossover of Bone listeners this morning, then maybe. I bet we get some Jeff Beck & fer sure some Stevie Ray.
Any chance of a jazz ringer, like "Birdland" or "Take Five" or "Cast Your Fate To The Wind"?
-
Nnnope. Still bored.
-
"he's dancing his way back to me,
he's dancing his way back tooooo me"
i don't know what song that is, but i think that melody was lifted from "fire on high."
why play satriani when you could play beck?

These are Fogheads we're talkin' 'bout, folks. Predictable as fog in July.

This is the tune used in the Vonage commercials I think.

Shannon, "Let the Music Play"? I thought she cribbed that from Madonna.
-
OK. I'm waking up a little.
Speaking of the Bone- that A-Z was interesting. It looks like there's gonna a be a little variety to the "classic rock" as in 'stuff written after 1987'...
-
This BETTER NOT be the short version of Frankenstein. It's an abomination I tell you!
EDIT: Phew, it seems to be all there.

yeah, i was thinking shannon. the melody is straight from the last melody lines of "fire on high." which madonna?

They're going for the old KSJO listeners who've been homeless of late. Homeless radio-wise, that is. Although I guess some of 'em... oh never mind.

I always thought it was "inspired" by "Into the Groove".
-
I think a great prank would be for Tune No. 10 to be Miami Sound Machine's "Words Get in the Way."
-
HM for "Frankenstein"
-

oh, yes, the chorus - i can see that. just the "he's dancing his way back to me" part is straightup elo.

Here's Urth's Montrose anyway (of a sort).
This was just a workout song (minus the synths) that they band used for warmups, and they called it "The Double Drum Solo Song". After deciding that the album needed one more tune they reworked it with the signature synth riffs, but took forever to come up with a title, nearly delaying the record's release. I forget who got credit fro calling it Frankenstein, but the idea was that it was a beast that they had created that then ran amok.

Too bad he didn't do this set on Friday, then.
Here's yer WOS, or least-interesting anyway: "Time is Tight". VHM for me.
-
BOS to "Embryonic Journey." Used to surprisingly touching effect as the closure to "Friends."

Definitely not WOS. Booker et al did far better, but I don't dislike that one.
-
VHM2 "Embyonic Journey", which whould be more meaningful if Rosalie didn't play it every Sunday.
-
This is my WOS - this guitar noodling that I can't make rhyme or reason of. Sounds like SRV's tone, which wouldn't surprise me -- I know he's a favorite here, but he bores me to tears.
-
I'm guessing Time is Tight will get my BOS vote.
This song always reminds me of the run of shows Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers did at the Fillmore in 97. Time is Tight was one of Benmont's chances to show off. Those were the days.
Ah, and here's Stevie Ray. One of the more predictable songs of the set--Fogheads eat this one up.
-
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz (and so on)
-
What Beej said.

This is actually my BOS. I think it's a beautiful tune, and it is SRV -- "Riviera Paradise".
-
What Beej said.
so it's Beej's fault my screen just expanded?
-
zzzzzz-zshnert--wha? What?! I fixed it! I fixed it!
Yeah, this is a nice tune. But, it's making me sleepy-sleepy.

I think it was my fault. Dunno why Gazoo's quote didn't wrap. I added a CR and it seems OK now.

it's an instrumental -- it ain't supposed to rhyme

yes, Dave, that's the most horrific thing I've ever heard. But thanks (really) for sharing.

in the smart-ass sense, not the Mafia sense.

Even so, I wish he'd played that version instead of the released version. THAT would be funny.
-
I don't usually give a rat's ass about the "bonus track", but I may stick around long enough to see what instrumental Annalisa pulls out. And then I'll CG it.

I was thinking the exact same thing. But you can safely CG it until about 11:10 or so. She never leads right off with it.

Did anyone else notice that the time-stamps of the posts aren't adjusted for Daylight Savings?
-
so we all know the answer to Annalisa's Instrumental Question!
Which of the instrs Dave played got its name because it was pieced together from many different edits?
-
and the bonus: "Water Song", Hot Tuna. Which, along with the Airplane and SRV tracks was put into heavy KFOG rotation after 9/11 because it was considered "comfort music".
-

Nobody plays bass like Jack Casady does on that song. The burning distortion of the Versatone amp really sings!

No diss intended. I love it, it was a staple of NYC prog-FM when I was in HS/college. So I was actually surprised to hear it turn up on KFOG, first as an unearthed nugget on Acoustic Sunrise, and then in frequent appearances after 9/11. It IS comforting. And that's a good thing, as Martha would say.

Finally! Another new member! Davefish is no longer the newbie of the bunch!
Greetings once again, Schroeder brethren!
