I was home watching the US Open, when Tom Brokaw broke in with a special report. I could see from the look on his face that it wasn't good news. Russert was born in the same year as me, so reflections are unavoidable. Life happens...

I've seen a lot of Russert this year, having been watching a lot of election-year stuff on MSNBC. So I'm more moved by this than if it had been someone from CBS or CNN whose contributions I don't see that much. Should be a night of tributes on the various Peacock channels.

even sadder: nobody I work with knew who Tim Russert was. But they were excited to hear that a) Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson are back together again and b) R. Kelly was acquitted today.

On one of those annual 50 Most Powerful People in TV listings I saw recently he was like #4 or something. Very said. I remember him onthe morning show promoting a book he'd written about his dad, seemed like an even more intersting guy than what you'd think.
