Title: CG/KPOO/KCDX etcetcetc for the week of 6/9/08
Post by: ggould on June 09, 2008, 07:37:55 AM
not exactly online, but this morning when I stopped at the Daly City Starbucks on my way to school (school's over, just cleaning the desk, entering grades, etc.) I had to look at my iPhone to see what the current list of played music was.  I had just missed Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings version of "This Land is Your Land."

Was going to blow off Judge in favor of catching up with CGSS, but KPOO's stream is especially solid today -- no buffering at all (knock wood; watch it go all to hell now that I've posted this).

"you got me where you want me!" Judge pulls out the Ritchie Family's "Brazil" -- indeed, he played all of Side 1 of that LP: "Peanut Vendor"/"Frenesi"/"Brazil". Vintage.

Judge has been treating us to a live LP by an apparently pre-wheelchair Teddy Pendergrass, with the "Teddy Bear Orchestra" and many screaming ladies. Damn!  Alicat would be in heaven with this.

WLNG gives me Marianne Faithfull's "As Tears Go By", followed by the Sergio Mendes take on "Scarborough Fair" -  parsley, sage, cilantro and salsa!

Only caught the last half-hour of Barry Scott tonight, but that was enough to hear Boomer Castleman's "Hot Day in the South."  Such strange imaginations among the story-songwriters of the early '70s.

That's a new one on me -- I only know his creepy Top 40 hit "Judy Mae".
