mmm... Champagne Jam! It's great on rye toast.

The Atlanta Rhythm Section - "Champagne Jam"

to get to Candy's 'Trina -- you gotta endorse Obama!

Time for some morning Bruce Juice to start your day

At least it's short--and we should be glad to hear any Springsteen tune. But yeah, we hear that a lot, probably the most of any song in his catalog.
WOS, Follow You Follow Me. Genesis descends into the belly of the beast.
-
Remember that 'Fogheads at Fifteen' set we had a couple years ago? Well I was 15 in '78 and had a couple of older friends who significantly expanded my musical horizons that year. So far Dave is treading that turf for me, even including Genesis, of which my friend Brent was a big fan. All we need now is some angry young men.

I still say this one's rather lovely -- certainly far better than what they descended into 4 or 5 years later. VHM.

BOS-and-proxy-of-Gaz, Andy Gibb, dancing in the shadows.

I'm guessing Andy Gibb's not quite angry enuf ;)

Was just wondering if we'd hear anything from SNF in this set. Well, this doesn't exactly qualify, but it's a pretty short line from Saturday Night Fever to Shadow Dancin'. The Brothers Gibb could do no wrong in '78--'til Sgt. Peppers came out anyway.

Shadow Dancing and death from a broken heart (literally) thanks to Victoria Principal (or so goes the story).

Here to cast my BOS vote live, with a VHM to the Broooce.

Well... Victoria P and lots of coke, certainly.

and speaking of bad movies: FM!

How hungry is your reggae?
BOS #3, The Steely Ones
-
BOS, the Dan, in their swansong playing anything resembling rock. After this they'd fully succumbed to their jazz tendencies--not that that's bad.
-
You'll recall (now Congresswoman) Jackie Spier survived several bullets in the Jim Jones jungle while visiting Camp Kool-Aid with Congressman Leo Ryan in 78. BOS4 "FM" (do you recall the instrumental version?)
-

and how funked-up is your Muzak? (funked-up Muzak is not far from fake-jazz)

Interesting comment, I always thought this was a straight line through "Deacon Blues" to "Babylon Sisters". Very jazzy to my ears and not least because of the extended sax solo.

Saw a PBS documentary the other night on KTEH that looked quite closely at Peoples' Temple and Jonestown, and talked with several survivors including our new congresswoman. Extremely chilling.
-
WOS Journey -- for a sec I thought it was LRB's "Cool Change".

The Royal Scam was the end of SD rock for me.

if it's the same one I saw at the Red Vic about a year ago (and I think it is), it was a VERY good docu.

I did not, so thanks for the reminder. An aunt by marriage lost one of her nieces there (in other words, my cousins' cousin). She was a social worker in SF & had gone down to 'rescue' some folks, on the plane in before Rep. Ryan.
And I have to give a BOS to Journey, to me this is the pinnacle of there Steve Perry output. Gets me every time.
ETA: On a closer listen...my comment above really only applies to "Feelin' That Way", not so much to "Anytime".

Yes, can't argue that. FM certainly has its jazzier elements, but the bass and guitar parts on this are heavier than they'd ever be again, harkening back to Royal Scam.

I know a woman from my old church who ended up being responsible for keeping track of bringing all those poor dead people back home to be buried. So sad.

BOS ABBA!

Can't argue that. But considering this is his first album with the band, that speaks heavily about everything that came after, even though they sold millions into the mid-80s.

Woo Hoo - ditto!!

What an amazing poster! I'll have to send that to my wife.
I can't believe I missed "Candy's Room" and "FM". Wasn't paying attention. Dang.

Here's my overall BOS--live FEATS! Spanish Moon, from Waiting For Columbus.

Toto, taking time out from playing on everyone else's albums to, er, play with themselves.
-
I just called in a 10-way tie vote, and while Toto is most definitely a flashback to 1978, if ever a single lyric exposed a bunch of great studio musicians as guys who need to outsource the writing, I give you:
Hold the line
Love isn't always on time
10-way tie vote herewith rescinded!

Regardless, Toto's "Hold The Line" and "I'll Supply the Love" are secret faves from 78.
