BOS Naked Eyes to start!
Ditto -- any '83 set that starts with a non-Katrina (only the 3rd appearance for this one) is one with serious potential.
ah, but here's Mr Henley gettin' Dirty.

Reagan > Rio, hey ya!
actually, it's "Hungry Like the Wolf", but I hear Simon LeBon has trouble telling their songs apart these days too.
-
Durannies, take note! '83 was your year. VHM Hungry Like the Wolf.

I was ready to select an appropriate pic as soon as I knew the year

yikes, Dave's got a subpar Tubes fetish going lately. (this is them, isn't it?)

Yeah, and this is better than a lot of things we could have heard--Inside-Outside is a pretty good album. Only one previous time in the DB, but that was a classic set, so it's been played at least twice.

shall we play a game?
BOS for Wargames. It's Ally Sheedy too, right?

Oops, but Reagan to Rio just sounds better.
Global Thermonuclear War :o

Let's play Global Thermonuclear War.

Yep. Wonder what she's up to lately? She was quite the BratPack honey in the early/mid-80s, but disappeared not long after.
-
BOS2 HL, "(KF)F" -- 10th appearance tho' it is.
-
HM for the Human League. A friend of mine arranged "Fascination" for the LSJUMB. They tore it up. Literally.

Always a great flashback for me even though it is a vrey frequent flyer. This was one of my favorite songs to dance to that summer.

What does he need? More kick in the phones?

She was always a favorite of mine. And now her daughter is almost as old as she was when Wargames came out. We're old...
ETA: I take that back. Her daughter is only 2/3 her age at Wargames time. But we're still old.

Back in 83/84, there was a great mashup of Billie Jean music with vocals of Steely Dan's Do It Again, worked well, although I don't recall who did it.

THis is too good not to point out: She is married to actor David Lansbury, the nephew of actress Angela Lansbury and son of Edgar Lansbury, the producer of the original production of Godspell.
Angela Lansbury's brother was the original producer of Godspell? I saw the original cast in the original off broadway show when I was a kid in Lon Gisland.

VHM Tears for Obama, "Change".

YES! I was thisclose to posting about this. very clever -- tho' not what we now call a mashup (someone re-recorded both songs and medley-ized 'em). I've been looking for it for years.

Excellent! Good to hear/do it again!
-
BOS4 or 5, BJ, "Uptown Girl", still a glorious 4 Seasons pastiche.
-
I'm this close to giving my overall BOS vote to BJ's paean to Christie.

I'll second that!

Belly o' da Whale, mahn
-
BOS, for flashback reasons, "Belly of the Whale".
"Oh, how long before I'm free?"
-
Belly o' da Whale, mahn
Had a feeling we might hear this today (not a big stretch in '83). Proxy o' Rod, just so's we don't forget.

I bet a lot of people these days think she's married to Chuck Norris.
Ooh, always nice to hear "Belly of the Whale", which really stands the test of time (imho).
Pretty good set all the way around.
-
I've got some errands, so I'm about to disappear wit'out o trace... But this is Dave's best '83 set in some time.

They team up to do infomercials for exercise equipment.
-
But this is Dave's best '83 set in some time.
Indeed--we've had three strong sets so far this week and it's only Wednesday. (I'm inclined to vote yesterday's set as Set o' the Week (so far) but no telling what the rest of the week holds.
-
We're getting a post-set but pre-Annalisa 83 bonus track--Eddie G' rockin' down to Electric Avenue.
OK, not so much of a bonus. But 83 lives on.

and now here's Mr Henley again, ending the innocence -- and last nite we got double Zevon: 10 mins after "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" appeared on 10@10, "Werewolves" popped up. KFOG needs a continuity person.

Hell, since 98% of their music is on a hard drive, they could just write a script that would detect if a certain artist had been played in, say, the last hour or two, and kick said artist out of the rotation for a preset length of time (with a manual override of course, in case someone dies or something). I bet Darryl could write one in his sleep.

I'm guessing that 10@10 is not on the hard drive as a list of songs -- that's why the songs Dave plays during the set don't show up on the "just played" generator. He likes to assemble it "live" from many pieces (whereas Ginger and Bob have fewer pieces and less creative control, so their 10@10 songs show up on their respective "just played" lists as they air, 'cause the songs are preloaded). The digtially-recorded replay is in the computer as a single 45-minute event, rather than 10 separate songs. So unless someone is paying attention... and I assume Big Rick is out the door as soon as the replay starts.

agreed, but I'm also sure Urth's right about Darryl being able to write a script like that in his sleep.
