"245 Days"?  That's how long Dave's'89 sets usually seem...

I'm pretty confident I've never heard this before.  Sounds like Peter Himmelman channeling Bryan Ferry.

VHM the segue from Bush I to "Road to Hell".

They're threatening us with a Fire Drill today -- I won't be upset if it happens during this set...

Very astute--it was indeed Peter Himmelman. The Bryan Ferry part is subjective. :)

I can only take credit for the subjective part.  I googled "245 days"  ;D

"Road to Hell" is a great song, but it's dead to me now, as is FYC's "Good Thing".

AAAAACK! The mutha of '89 Katrinas. Especially annoying after having heard "Johnny Come Home" earlier...

ETA: this is "Good Thing"'s sixteenth appearance per the shraytabase. (all '89 sets except for one VT). Ay Caramba!

and "So Alive" is getting there too, for me. How sad this is -- seriously. What was up in Dave's life that year that his recollection is so limited, when most years are overflowing with possibilities?

I don't recognize this John Waite song, but any Waite is bad Waite in my book, unless it's the Babys.

WOS John Waite/Bad English, "When I See You Smile" -- power-ballad dreck, no matter whose name is on it. He squandered whatever good will he had left with this one, IMHO.

ETA: I might've guessed this is a Diane Warren hackjob. (*shudder*)

OMFG -- BJ starts another fire.  I actually will take pity and VHM this -- I think it's cleverer than most folks do, as many HFH lists that it's on.

Oy. I'm withholding my BOS today. Only the Elvis Costello TOTHK is remotely deserving and I can't pull the trigger on that, as Veronica is far from being a favorite of his.

Y'know, I don't think I'd mind We Didn't Start the Fire nearly as much if it weren't for the painfully trite chorus with its moon/june cliched couplets and that gawdawful falsetto. Feh.

I feel ya.  I shoulda logged on to CG at 10 -- I'll spend the rest of the day with Saturday's CGSS. I have a hunch that Annalisa's bonus may make up for this charade, tho'.

well, "Voodoo" by the Neville Bros doesn't exactly float my boat, but the choices were mostly '89 frequent fliers (Dylan, XTC, the 'mats). So much for hunches.

Depends--how do you feel about the Neville Brothers? Not Yellow Moon, but Voodoo, another cut off that album, so there's a plus.

ETA: OK, as I suspected.

for a brief shining second I thought that, since the quiz question involved "Veronica" we might get "My Brave Face"...

What is it Dave has about ignoring Flowers in the Dirt? It's not a bad record, and there are several tracks on it that would be set-worthy, besides just My Brave Face. Figure of Eight particularly, but several others were tuneful and probably his best post-Wings album since Tug of War.

After hearing tunes 2-10 in the car, I almost didn't want to read this thread because of the scathing comments I expected (& which I was voicing aloud in the car).  Only took a peek to see what y'all thought about the Peter Himmelman.  Once drove across North Dakota, and somewhere in the middle of the state we saw a tree on a hill.  Stopped and took pictures because the 'scenery' was such a contrast to the drudgery on North Dakotan corn & wheat fields.  That's how I felt about "245 Days".
