Should've been 100-1 odds on Dave reprising "Rock Me." Early BOS contender, except for the knowledge that Dave comes up with his best work in '67-'69.

I've tried to post this twice now:

i'm confused. is it safe to post now? because i love e.e.cummings. i mean, uh, burton.

For those for whom this exchange made no sense: I tried to reply to deleted posts twice. We now return you to your regularly scheduled killing floor.
(What does that phrase mean, anyway?)

(What does that phrase mean, anyway?)
I think it refers to slaughterhouses and meat processing. The room where the livestock are killed is the killing floor.
-
I'm betting on the Doors making an appearance with either "Touch Me" or "Wishful Sinful."
And now, the predictable "Because" (Dave always includes something from Side 2 of Abby Road).
-
"because." is this the song you hate, gaz? would you send it to the killing floor in the cutting room?
-

ditto on both.
Isn't there a 'loooong version' of "No Time"?
-

Was "Because" song #3? I hate being late.

as in last night's Simpsons rerun. It ALL comes back to the Simpsons somehow.
Yay! VHM Avengers theme. been watching the reruns on Fri nite on BBC America. Emma Peel -- the CZJ of her time.

We can hear JC Superstar medley, right?

Maybe we need to designate someone to create the day's board. Mondays-Mike, Tuesdays-Mark, Wednesdays Ali, Thursdays, me, and Fridays Geoff. Or something like that.

I would never--it gets my BOS vote, at least so far.

growl....how right you are.
rod: yes, "because" was #3. if we can have jcs, it won't be the ted neeley version. but i don't think anyone prefers that one except for me, anyhow.

I love part 2 and hate it when people don't play it all.

(Gazoo uses his time-out period of silence to wish for "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly" as the follow-up to this)

Just blame me for not sticking with my post being the first one. I though urth's was better, so I nuked mine. I guess we should just go with the first, regardless, right? Sorry.

And wasn't part of the Oh Well melodic theme revisited in The Chain, from Rumours? Or am I imagining that?

Yeah, first forum wins. I nuked mine because I saw yours was first. If we need to edit the title later we can do that (or at least, I, as moderator, can.)

I never heard that before, but now it makes sense!

We can hear JC Superstar medley, right?
we can hear "JC Superstar" the song (single charted early '70), but the medley isn't "legal" until '71 (when the album was released).
Hello, my name is RGMike and I'm a Chart Junkie.

I think a more sensible solution is just encouraging people to create the day's thread a little earlier (i.e. day & date) and you can always come back and edit in the year of the spin. The duping happens when we all try to wait for Don Pardo & then create the thread ASAP.

Fill In the Blank:
"We want to be free to ____ without being hassled by The Man."

what is that "we wanna get loaded" clip from? i only know it from the farm song that samples "i don't wanna lose your love."
-
VHM Crazy Elephant! Gimme Gimme good bubblegum funk.
-
WOS to Crazy Elephant, "Gimme Gimme Good Lovin'." I love bubblegum music from studio-created bands, but this one fell way short of the mark.

so tough

You didn't mind the sub-rudimentary guitar solo?

That's an image I don't need. He makes enough weird facial expressions.
P.S. Love the Stevie signoff.

It WAS short -- an edit I'd never hear before (not that it's a very long song to begin with). Dave musta played it off of a K-Tel compilation!

I was working at Alvin Duskin's that summer, and just got back to my 'commune' (a flat near Noe and Market that 4 people shared) with the album, just purchased from Woolworth's on Powel and Market.
mmm...

Agreed, on both counts.

Laying 3:2 odds on "Someday We'll Be Together" closing us out. Any overs/unders?
-
Speaking of getting wasted, BOS for Blind Faith. BTW, POC, don't knock wanking. That's sex with someone I love.
-
today was made for grazing in the grass. who wants to cut work and doobie with me?

Let's get Up With People! HM to the Friends of Distinction, making the Fifth Dimension sound just a little bit blacker. :P

they don't make solos long enough for that sort of love. everytime i hear "southern man," i feel like charging neil with a violation.

nah, nah, nah. we all know what happens when you cut work!

you leave cucko-mccoo alone! :)

This isn't the right year for "El Condor Pasa," is it?
I'd rather be hammered than nailed.
On second thought, let me reconsider that and get back to you.
-
I've got a lot of S&G on my iPod, and am pretty impressed with the recording quality and detail.
-
Laying 3:2 odds on "Someday We'll Be Together" closing us out. Any overs/unders?
If you're right I'll be sad, I could do with a different set-closer for once.
-
how long do you generally take?

if i told you, you might pull another muscle.
-
how silly to think i could escape the moody blues.
-
BOS for a Moodies closer that *isn't* "Dear Diary."
-
Laying 3:2 odds on "Someday We'll Be Together" closing us out. Any overs/unders?
I was gonna take the over (that's greater chances of your pick being right, yes?), but it seems like this Moodies song might be song # 10--kinda has that end-of-set vibe.
And I've lost count of what's come before.

LSHIAPMP!!
not fair!
-
This isn't the right year for "El Condor Pasa," is it?
yes it is.
but you'd be forgiven for guessing that Dave'd be wrong again.
Wow -- I'd've never bet that "Never Comes the day" would be our SECOND Bob & Dave '69 re-play .
-

Y'all know I loves the Moodies, but when you consider how often Dave culls tracks from this album, isn't it astonishing how seldom he plays anything else from them?

didn't we recently hear them in an 80s set?

Dave's been playing a lot of B-Day requests of late -- gives me hope for what I'm gonna lay on him for mine.

We hear "The Voice" and "Gemini Dream" every now and again, and I think the former came up earlier this month. I don't feel a strong need for "Steppin' in a Slide Zone" to come up more often. :o

Let me rephrase that then, "isn't it astonishing how seldom he plays anything else from their next 6 albums?"

I was gonna say that Dave plays 'em often enough, but I figured Mark probably thinks I always disagree with him
But -- Dave being perverse -- he does seem to play them more in the '80s than in their peak artistic years.
-
So which Moody song was it?
-
GAAH! Busy day here at Cubicle Hell. Missed the Friday set. Alas.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I've been thinking similar thoughts. Somebody else grabbed my "garage-band" idea a few months back, but I've got another one percolatiing.
I'll tell mine if you spill yours....

I'm planning to ask for a 1969 Soul Patrol (some guy stole my '73 SS idea recently) with one caveat -- it MUST include Barbara Acklin's "Love makes A Woman", a great record and legit top 20 hit. Dave (or the Fogheads) can pick the other 9 songs. It's my 50th, fercryinoutloud! If he refuses I'll be quite bummed.

My plan is a Power Pop set, stuff like the Flamin Groovies, Cheap Trick, Raspberries, Big Star, Bad Finger, Todd Rundgren etc. I'm thinking I should pitch it as a 1970-79 Vertical Tasting, but the late 70s might be a bit slim pickings. And there's a couple of later artists I want to include, like Matthew Sweet (haven't picked which one yet) so I'll have to give the whole concept some more consideration. But I've got nearly 6 months, so I've got time.
Of course, if they decide to make a big deal over KFOG's anniversary, I'm screwed. 'Cuz their birthday is my birthday.

Well, it's their 23rd, not really a milestone. a 1982 set isn't really a given on that date anymore.

So which Moody song was it?
Never Comes The Day
