And indeed, this is not America.
ETA: Sodden thought: How did Bowie get paired up with Pat Metheny? Love the results, but they aren't a duo I would have conceived of, then or now.
-
And indeed, this is not America.
as Jon Carroll's column today makes clear! Thank heaven for small favors. And BOS for Bowie/Metheny, sha-la-la-la-la!

BOS1: Runnin' Up That Hill!

Yep. I finished it just as the train I was on pulled into Montgomery, and the last line (equating celebrating being Irish by drinking with celebrating being black by picking cotton) stuck in my head for the several blocks down 2nd street.
-
running up that 'trina -- or at least that frequent flier. I've got a hunch "Endicott" may make an appearance too. Or Cock Robin.
-
Early BOS votes to both Bowie Meth and Kate Bush, both sledgehammers of sorts.

giving Scarlett & the Twins a run for their, er, money.

Si, and several Reagan clips.

I hadn't realized today was the day - thanks! Nice to see that things are, um, in bloom.
-
Rock Hudson avoiding AIDS acknowledgement, into "She's Waiting" - I can't decide if that's inspired or just cruel.

from Hudson to Crapton.

I'm sure it has no meaning at all, Dave-wise. Unless the "She" is Doris Day.

Yes, this afternoon you'll need to skinny dip under a waterfall
-
OMFG! Animotion! a serious rarity if not a bustout. BOS2
-
Wow! BOS to one I don't think we've heard in a long time, Animotion's "Obsession." I remember our Top 40 station being a little skittish about this at first.
This gives me faint hope that we'll get "Oh Sheila" before the set's over.

Glad I'm checking the posts! But I'm watching the tourney on CBS-online, it's a really good way to watch actually.

that would make my day ('cause what's good for the goose is *always* good for the gander). "Obsession" was played once before, 3 years ago, per the shraytabase.

once before in May '05. Kudos to Dave!
-
Remember a couple summers ago a limited run TV show called "Baby Hit Me One More Time" in which 70's/80's acts performed their hits. Animotion did "Obsession". Kinda interesting/fun/weird to see these acts many years later.
-
WOS Mr Mister, mister! Dave's played this quite recently, no?

I loved that show -- we had major discussion of it here, actually.
-
HM to Mr. Mister, one I heard a lot on school buses that fall.

Still a little early for an overall evaluation, but so far this set is doing a pretty good job of raising the bar for 85 sets. Althought Broken Wings doesn't exactly continue the trend.
Here's your Reagan clip, Wayback!
-
Mama Reagan: takin' care of her boy Ronnie.
Hey, what's this track??
-
WTF? who's this on the beach, in the sand?
-
Mama Reagan: takin' care of her boy Ronnie.
Hey, what's this track??
Eyes, by the Tubes, from their swansong LP, Love Bomb. Dave's played this a time or three. It's a total Narada, and reversing the trend I was hoping for in my previous post.
-
Summer of '69, er, '85 :o

and now we're in complete reverse: Bryan Adams, as generic an evocation of 1969 as you could ever imagine
-
Summer of '69, er, '85 :o
the 2 best summers of Mr Adams' life, apparently.
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Not this record! Not This RECORD!!!!!!
-
HM to the original Katrina, just because hey, it's spring.
-
Woo Hoo -- I still enjoy the Mother of all Katrinas!!!!
-
Summer of '69, er, '85 :o
the 2 best summers of Mr Adams' life, apparently.
Followed by the Mother of all Katrinas, which is almost sounding good by comparison--has it been redeemed?

er... NO. But a Very Important Record in its time ;)

My attractive 20-something neighbor is named Summer. Shall I blast Summer '69 for her this first night of spring?? (devilish grin)
And now The Katrina of all Katrinas!

Katrina showed up last night on Jeopardy, too, under the category "H2O Music" -- Katrina and -- "what are the Waves".

Considering we heard "Skateaway" right before 10@10, this is a bit too much Straitness.

Yeah, and this is probably the most lightweight track on Brothers in Arms. I'd much rather hear the title track, for instance, or Walk Across the River.

Summer lovin', had me a blast ...

Yes, you are CORRECT, sir! Which reminds me, anyone catch that new South Park last night, about Britney Spears. Whew, that episode really pushed the envelope!
-
and we close with Mr Petty. Damn, we started off so well, too...
-
--has it been redeemed?
Katrina is not really a 'Katrina' anymore, only showing up once/year in 1985 sets the past 3 years. It gets into it's share of Summer/Sunshine theme sets though.
-
Second time we've heard Don't Come Around Here... this morning--Dave played it during 8am hour on the morning show today.

They never fail to amaze me. It was sick twisted and perfectly on-target. (it was also great to see the rerun right before it where they trash Family Guy -- I love the fact that everyone in the comedy/animation biz hates that show)

Seriously??? jeez, that's even worse than the Straits double-up.
