and a damn fine start to the week!
-
VHM to "Masterpiece": great orchestration, but the lack of a refrain is a mild disappointment.
-
It's a ball of confusion, I tell ya!
-
VHM2 to the good Doctor.
No predictions from me, though I hope we skip "All the Young Dudes."
-
Dr. J needs a little Brain Salad Surgery...and here's ELP to give it to him!
-
guaranteed to blow your head apart!

<-- Let's keep it mostly soulful

I'd be fine with that. Not sure that Karn Evil 9 falls into that category. Nor does The Real Me, but I'm happy to hear it nonetheless!
-
gonna hear the rest in the car. BOS #2 the 'Oo
-
BOS to "The Real Me" unless we get some Philly soul 'n' strings.
Some hair-metal act covered this in the '80s to decent effect - W.A.S.P., maybe?

Ain't nobody gonna touch "The Real Me" for BOS today. My favorite Who song. And I just watched Quadrophenia the other day.

Indeed--that and Moon's frenetic drumming are sending this one over the edge. This is the Who at their peak, imo.
-
Damn! What a beautiful seque into Brain Damage. One for the ages, Dave! The end of "The Real Me" is always a problem unless you let the record go. Problem solved.
-
Quite the three-fer of monster Brit-rock acts of the early 70s--ELP, The Who, and Floyd. EJ next?
Mike must have a meeting--he's conspicuously absent.
-

THANK U FOR TALKIN' TO ME, MOREY
-
Yeah, one of those soul one-hits, First Choice!

Yeah, one of those soul one-hits, First Choice!
Mike will be sorry to have missed "Armed and Extremely Dangerous."
-
Here's yer soul vaccination, Wayback--BOS4, Armed & Extremely Dangerous.
ETA: Errr, Gaz, too!
And now some latin soul--Carlos, Love Devotion & Surrender.
Anyone hear about that autism benefit at Bimbo's a few weeks back? Los Lobos headlined, and George Clinton and Sly Stone both sat in for the encore.
-
Dave's on a roll today, from "Love, Devotion and Surrender" to "The E Street Shuffle."
-
BRUUUUUUUCE!!! Being from Jersey, I instinctively yell that at his first notes, cain't help it!
-
BOS5 (or is it 6?) Bruce gettin' funky down on E Street.
-
Dave's on a roll today, from "Love, Devotion and Surrender" to "The E Street Shuffle."
Oh yes. This is a great tune. I think Ricky Lee Jones must have been listening to this when she came up with her first album

Word to that, Gaz. This is one for the books, fo' sho'.
-
And Elton too, a very 1973 set!!!

A great set gets even better with EJ (as predicted upthread), "I've Seen That Movie Too."

And we still have one to go, no? What are we going to finish with?
-
SOUL MAKOSSA, git down wit yo' bad self!

SOUL MAKOSSA, git down wit yo' bad self!
Great finish! Guess he didn't want to go down-tempo at the end, though I think that EJ would have been a great closer.

Was thinking he could have gone that way as well, but the buzzer would have been extremely jarring after that low-key ending.

Having heard it from JJ Sat nite, I'm not heartbroken -- but I'm looking forward to the replay; sounds like a fine effort all around

Made it in time for Floyd tonight.

Armed and Extremely Dangerous
This is a first timer for me.

Was able to pay a little more attention to the sound montage that Dave played leading into The Real Me tonight--I don't recall hearing those clips in that combination before, and over the bed of the waves that makes up the intro to TRM, leading up to Daltrey belting out "Can you see the Real Me?!? Can ya? CAN YA?!?" it made for a pretty well thought out segue. I missed the segue out of TRM into Brain Damage, tho--was going from the car to the house. But this on the whole is one of Dave's finer efforts.
Mama-ko, mama-sah, mama-makossa...
ETA: The only bustout of the set was E St. Shuffle, which definitely put it over the top for me, but even without it this would have been a stellar effort.
