"Surviving the year" sounds about right.  I imagine I'm the only representative of the Year of the Rat club here.

Don't forget The Rat Pack.

Rat quotes (from SFGate):
1. "Not mouse, never mouse. If anything, rat!" - Bette Davis as Margo Channing in "All About Eve"

2. "That's not a rat. That's my ferret." - Jennifer Aniston as Polly in "Along Came Polly"

3. "The rat rules!" - Templeton in "Charlotte's Web"

4. "I got this rat, this gnawing, cheese-eating, f- rat, and it brings up questions."- Jack Nicholson as Frank Costello in "The Departed"

5. "Come out and take it, you dirty, yellow-bellied rat." - James Cagney in "Taxi!"

6. "If you wait, a rat will always lead you to its hole." - Sayid on "Lost"

7. "His idea of great R&R was cold rice and a little rat meat." - Martin Sheen as Willard in "Apocalypse Now"

8. "You learn two great things in your life. Look at me: Never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut." - Robert De Niro as Jimmy in "GoodFellas"

9. "This is pitiful. A thousand people freezing their butts off waiting to worship a rat." - Bill Murray as Phil Connors in "Groundhog Day"

10. "Rats!" - Charlie Brown

Mike, since you're from the East Coast, you may remember these guys.  I can't quite remember his name (guess I could wiki him) but the lead guitarist with the big nose used to play the guitars my old company made!  TANC indeed!

Peppy Marchello was the leader of The Good Rats. A great band that never got their due.
