I was hoping for the Mardi Gras set, or maybe a Super Tuesday election set, but with that damn "Thru the wall" thing looming for Friday, we may be stuck with an '80s or '90s year.
-
I was so caught up in Super Tuesday and my work that I had no idea today was Mardi Gras! Laissez les bon temps roulez! (Did I get that right? My conjugation is fuzzy.)

Yep, looks right to me! Aiiiiiieeeeee!
Gotta find some place to get some red beans and rice for lunch today...maybe Neeto's on Stevenson.
-
Leading into the set we're hearing Beds are Burning, which makes a latter 80s set less likely imo. So maybe we're going 90s today?

Nope -- 85 it is, TFF to start.

This is the Working Hour. We are paid by those who learn from our mistakes.

1985: will we hear Bruce, Madonna, Prince, Dire Straits, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins, Simple Minds, Duran Duran, Huey Lewis, Wham ???

Another behind the scenes presidential clip--Dave must've found a whole cache of these things.

"Oh, I don't need a phone? I thought I'd at least be pretending..."

Yeah, that was kind of creepy. It made me feel a little funny to think about the president making such a big deal out of a football game. I think Nixon talking to Buzz Aldrin in space made sense, but congratulating Bill Walsh just seems silly.

"Congrats to Coach Walsh and the 49ers, I've gotta go, I hear Nancy calling!"
-
VHM "Walk of Life", down in the tunnel, tryin' to make it pay.

Reagan was always pretending to be president. To this day I wonder which of his inner circle was really his Cheney, his puppeteer.

Well, you've got 2 now. BOS Prince, "Raspberry Beret", 'cause ah's a bit too leisurely.

Prince it is. Enthusiastic BOS to "Raspberry Beret," I love it when his jams are loose.

Speaking of creepy... Jim & Tammy :'(

Tammy doing some Christian good -- too bad about the rest of her, um, ministry.
OMFG -- BOS2 Kate Bush. Tori Amos, eat yer heart out.

That clip is why Dave LOVED her. He thinks that her being nice to AIDS patients makes up for everything else.

OMFG2 and BOS3 Madonna -- Wayback, you're on a roll!
-
Dave finally gives respecks to Madonna! Mike, where are you? BOS2 to "Crazy for You."
(Mark, were you still at Schwab when they did a "Vision Quest" theme for an all-hands-on-deck meeting?)
-
And now for something completely different, let's rock!
-
BOS Kate Bush.
I can appreciate the significance of Madonna, but am just not digging this song.
VHM (altho far from a rarity) Phantom, Rocker & Slick.
-

Don't think so, I'd remember that I think. But BOS anyway, I still have the Vision Quest soundtrack on LP.

Hey Wayback, I was wondering if you might tell us a little more about yourself, either here or over on the Welcome Thread in the Stream of Consciousness forum. I just blurbed myself over there.

I have never liked this one, and barely remember hearing it in '85.

Here's my BOS2: Ways to be Wicked, the lovely Ms. McKee and Lone Justice.
Ain't afraid to stick it in...

BOS4 from me -- a fabulous track. I'd love to hear Dolly cover this.

Was anyone else hoping to actually hear "We Are the World"?
-
wow -- "Exception of Love", i forget who this is, but they're doing a fine Style Council imitation.

By the way, that's some collection of avatars you got going there. I think you've had more avatars in the last two days than I've had in the last three years.

That's who I assumed this was!

My favorite R.E.M. song!
Let's hear it for Lawyer Jeff!

It would appear to be "The Truth".

The band was The Truth. I still have that 45, totally blanked on their name.

Dave, did you know a guy named Jeff Selman in college? He was in Chris' frosh dorm & after they got reacquainted last fall I also met him & since he's a VC lawyer I asked him for some advice for our start up. On our last call I segued off-topic to ask him if he'd ever listened to the this song carefully enough to realize that he could claim it is about himself.

Dave just LURVES a "cold close" before the buzzer!
A fine '85 effort from Mr Morey, if ah do say so.

Hell, yesterday it seemed like you had about a dozen during the course of the set! But hey, keep it up, it's fun to see what you come up with next.

Mark, I don't know if you're still here, but I don't recognize that name. Why would he say the song was about himself?
ETA: I see the lyrics say something about "lawyer Jeff". I could never make any of those out, after "bad to swallow you whole...".

By the way, in today's pic, that's me with Reagan, in 1990, to have him record some public service announcements. A surreal experience!

Bonus track is going to be the Beat Farmers! 'Cause I just won.

There's some divergence of opinion, but it's suggested that "Lawyer Jeff" is the band's former manager, Jefferson Holt.
