or so we've been led to believe. Some J-5? CSNY? "Lucretia McEvil"? I'd really love to hear "Misississipi" by John Phillips.
-
Holy crap--9:57 and we're already in the middle of the birthday club--early start today!

Dave must be in a hurry to go do his Super Bowl Party shopping ;)
"Empty Pages" is always welcome, but I'm jonesin' for a bustout or 2.

Yes, other 1970 possibilities: Sly, Beatles (yea), Simon & Gar, 3DogNight, Bread, Carpenters, Guess Who, CCR, LedZep, CSNY...

BOS Mungo Jerry, just 'cause I'm real sick of winter at this point.
"If her daddy's poor just do what you feel"

See, that's how much of the song I missed!
-
1970 is a year that's almost always a highlight for me, but so far Traffic and Mungo Jerry are leaving me kinda meh. Hoping Dave really brings it with some good soul in the remaining 8 tunes.

Good chance of most of those, but Dave hasn't played Bread or Carpenters in a 1970 set within the scope of my Db, and Zep only rarely.
Getting the Godness out of the way early, thankfully.
-
VHM Henry Gibson. Least necessary of set: the godness on the mountain top.
-
Bella Abzug: Shocking!
That wasn't Bella -- the accent wasn't nearly thick enuf ;)
-
not a bustout but I'll settle for "Victoria" -- what a queen! BOS.
-
VHM Henry Gibson. Least necessary of set: the godness on the mountain top.
Godness jinx!
-
not a bustout but I'll settle for "Victoria" -- what a queen! BOS.
So far that's my BOS candidate, but hoping for a bustout--and no soul so far!
-
Sugar Bear: Bing Crosby's voice?
-
BOS the TV Commercial medley, especially the "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootise Pop?"
-
sounds like a new commercial montage -- VHM for novelty. VVHM Margaret Hamilton for Maxwell House. The flavor's in the Munchkins.
VHM GD at their artistic peak.
-
Sugar Bear: Bing Crosby's voice?
no, just an incredible simulation.
You're 0-for-2 recognizing voices so far ;)
-
Sugar Bear: Bing Crosby's voice?
Not literally, but I'm sure it was meant to sound like him.
BOS2, Friend o' the Deli.
"Give me some pickles and pastrami on rye, a friend of the deli is a friend of mine..."
-
"Give me some pickles and pastrami on rye, a friend of the deli is a friend of mine..."
Must be Nashville Katz!
BOS2 3DN, nice to hear this outside the Earth Day set. One of Paul Williams' loveliest and most heartfelt.
-
Teach yer 'Trinas well.

And amen on Out In the Country--another serious BOS candidate.
-
Tricky Dick: "those bums..."
-
OMFG! GFR, "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home" -- an epic, and best cheeze of set.
-
Tricky Dick: "those bums..."
Seriously--Pot, I'd like you to meet Mr. Kettle...
-
Wow, kudos to Dave for the extended Kent State news, and especially the beginning where he (correctly) tied it to the admission by Nixon of the illegal invasion of Cambodia.
-
OMFG! GFR, "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home" -- an epic, and best cheeze of set.
maybe that's why he had to start early
-
BOS I'm Your Captain.
-
OMFG! GFR, "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home" -- an epic, and best cheeze of set.
Saw GFR at Alameda County Fair last summer and a good time was had by all!
-
R Dean Taylor "Indiana Wants Me" a sledgehammer for me: summer camp!
-
OMFG2! "Indiana Wants Me" -- even better cheeze. BOS3!
ETA: I vividly remember the first time i heard this -- I was on a bus listening to a tinny little transistor radio. And I assumed it was a new Simon & Garfunkel song. Ooops.
-

Any original members besides Mark Farner in attendance?
TANC: the redoubtable R. Dean Taylor! Cue the sirens....
-
OMFG2! "Indiana Wants Me" -- even better cheeze. BOS3!
virtually a bustout, Dave hasn't played ths since Aug 2002.
-
Is this the James Gang ripping off Zep?
-
BOS5 to the James Gang--quite the midwestern-tinged set today, with the GFR and James Gang, and a song about Indiana...
-
another BOS to the Bomber. Listen for the Maurice Ravel & Vince Guaraldi riffs!
-
Is this the James Gang ripping off Zep?
They had Zep opening for them on Zep's first US tour.

Yes, Don Brewer on drums, who earlier in year had played drums on Bob Seger's tour, and bassist Mel Schacher, joined by lead singer Max Carl (38 Special), lead guitarist Bruce Kulick (12 years with Kiss), and keyboardist Tim Cashion (Bob Seger and Robert Palmer).

Wow, all three originals--I'm impressed. I thought Farner was out using the name as a solo act. Good for them!

Warfield. I scored a couple of floor seats. I can't believe I'm going to a show on a school night!
So, I sent out a newsletter, since this is technically a major announcement (this many surviving members of the Dead haven't played together since 2004) and I immediately got a couple of angry/hatemail emails!
