Title: 28 January 2008--it's 1984
Post by: mshray on January 28, 2008, 10:04:15 AM
"Lovers in a Dangerous Time" is only my 3rd or 4th favorite song on this album, wish Dave would play "Dust and Diesel" instead next time.

Early BOS for Percy, "In the Mood".  Somewhere out there is a great live verson of this with an extended intro that doesn't sound like it's goign to be this song and then suddenly the crowd realizes what it is and goes nuts.  Have only heard it on KISW in Seattle, maybe it was a private concert of theirs.

ETA: surprisingly this is a Db bustout.

Instant BOS for Sweet Lou and his Red Joy Stick. One of my fave cuts from New Sensations, which i played A LOT in '84.

Please! Please! Please! Leave me my red joy stick!

I hesitate to ask this, but what the hell is he talking about?

Ostensibly, video game hardware:

Your interpretation of course may vary.

I can't say that this set has knocked me off my feet so far, but it has been very much Katrina-free.  Even this Genesis is little-played.

ETA: on looking in the Db, "Taking It All Too Hard" has only appeared in '83 sets prior to this (twice).

Another BOS to Duran Duran, "Wild Boys" being another song we've rarely heard before.

This has gotta be a bustout.  I don't recall ever hearing "Wild Boys" before.

4.  Lou Reed - My Little Red Joystick
5.  Romantics - Talking in Your Sleep
6.  Genesis - Taking it All Too Hard
7.  David Bowie - Blue Jean
8.  Duran Duran - Wild Boys

10.  Wang Chung - Dance Hall Days

BONUS TRACK:  The Psychedelic Furs - The Ghost in You

Well, I'd've BOS'd Lou, but while 1-9 may not be Katrinas (technically) I don't see many rarities either -- The Duran Duran seems closest to that.  The Prince is sure a very frequent flier to my ears.

BOS from me.  I'm surprised it doesn't come up in gay bars.  But VHM to the underrated "Blue Jean": Most people who care about Bowie have their "he-didn't-suck-until..." moment, and those who place theirs before "Blue Jean" are simply wrong.
