Title: 23 January 2008--it's 1986
Post by: urth on January 23, 2008, 10:03:41 AM
And I know I should recognize this TOTHK but it's pulling a blank in the ol' brain pan.

JCM in the #2 slot.

Gene Loves Jezebel?

Maybe that guy "Fish" who's "listening on line in Denver" can solve our 'BCO A-to-Z mystery. Gotta believe he's switching back-n-forth too.

I didn't recognize the first song, but HM.  And BOS to JCM's finest moment, "Rain on the Scarecrow."

BOS to JCM's finest moment, "Rain on the Scarecrow."

Ditto, a superb LP from start to finish IMHO. BOS2 XTC, becoming quite the Morey fave.

I dug the JCM more than I expected to--but enthusiastic BOS for the XTC, Summer's Cauldron. Not counting on the segue-into-Grass twofer, but I'll take what i can get.

VHM DS, the 2nd '85-leftover in this '86 set and we're only at song #4.

I though you had a particular dislike for "Justice and Independence" or was that Gaz?

"Summer's Cauldron" is getting played more often, but it also won BOS 3 of the last 4 times Dave played it, so he's getting positive reinforcement from Fogheads.

Wow -- Rudy G when he was good (well, relatively speaking).  VHM INXS.

Nope, I'm the J&I hater. Glad Skylarking is getting some love, but hope we can steer Dave into some of the deeper tracks before Summer's Cauldron descends into katrina-dom.

I still wish he'd play their "Motion of Love", a personal fave.

And I've always defended "Justice & Independence" against its critics -- urth is the one who dissed it, iirc.

VHM Tina, livening up the inescapable Crapton with her sass.

iirc, Dave has not played Blow Monkeys for several '86 sets in a row, even though I kept predicting it.

HOLY SHIT!!!!

Timbuk3 "Hairstyles and Attitudes".

Listen to the lyrics carefully, they're hysterical, especially the last verse.

Is this Timbuk 3 doin' Hairstyles and Attitudes? Bustout I believe.

Love the line about the Three Stooges! This gets a BOS just on general principles.

This really is the find of the week for me -- I've never heard this, it certainly got zero airplay in NY.

I know I'm on record in years past of wishing for this.  I had the album and always loved this track, but never heard it on the air until today.  What a treat!

Hairstyles and attitudes -- are they connected?
Are the styles we embrace a matter of taste, or of values rejected?
Hairstyles and attitudes -- how do they relate?
How well do we use our freedom to choose the illusions we create?

Blow dried, bouffant, basic training
Cops in drag dressed up like whores
Cowboys in pony tails, bankers in bangs,
Presidents in pompous pompadours
Mommas in mohawks, daddies in dreadlocks,
Heavy metal goldilocks trying to look tough
The wet look, the dry look, the FBI look
But can you judge a crook by his coverup?

Hairstyles and attitudes -- are they connected?
Are the styles we embrace a matter of taste, or of values rejected?
Hairstyles and attitudes -- how do they relate?
How well do we use the freedom to choose the illusions we create?

Razor cut, laser cut, chop-in-channel
Curled up, slicked back, hanging in the eyes
Parted left, parted right, straight down the middle
Scientists say your hair never lies
They've done lots of research
It may be just hype, but the latest findings cause me to tremble
They categorize us into three basic types
According to which of the three stooges you most closely resemble

Hairstyles and attitudes

Hmmm...impassioned discussion this am on the morning show about how Bush and his cronies had the invasion of Iraq on their agenda long before 9/11, and are they culpable for misleading the country.

Now, we hear Bruce's War and his chilling words: Blind faith in your leaders will get you killed.

Coincidence? Nah.

Agreed. Not a coincidence.

Wow, another serious BOS candidate--DLR, Ladies Night in Buffalo. This could be one of the best 86 sets in memory.

One of the best '86 sets in some time, despite "Ladies Night in Buffalo", for which I can't share the love, much as I like Mr Roth's solo ouevre.
