Title: 11 Dec 2007: 1984
Post by: mshray on December 11, 2007, 10:01:44 AM
Might have to cut out a little early to head up to SF (Gaz, I'm having an early lunch with Steve Fleming)

ETA:  "Good Rocking at Midnight" is actually a bustout in the Db, and the only other Honeydrippers appearance was 2 1/2 yrs ago for "Sea of Love".  Whodathumkit?

The Peter Billingsley reference was nice... except A Christmas Story came out in '83. Whatever!

Not the best year, but paying props to Percy with Good Rockin' at Midnight. Guess the Zep reunion was pretty good, from several reports. A friend of mine went, will be anxious to talk with him once he's back.

Speaking of Xmas, any guesses as to whether Dave will do a Foghead Xmas card this year? It's been what, two years since we last had one?

Was going to mention the Thompson Twins--should have gone with that. Proxy of Geoff, VHM for me.

No idea, but I sure hope so.

Please give him and Elise my greets of the season!  Been almost a year to the day since I saw them last.

Just realized that according to the DB, The Gap is by far the most frequently played TT song--six occurrances prior to today compared to three for the next nearest contender.

You will, Shirley, cross the line.  VHM to Manfred Mann, second lesser-heard single of theirs to come up this week.

I think it depends on when his Xmas vacay is -- if he's off next week I doubt he'll do it *this* Friday.

A big snooze to "The Runner", which must also be moving up in Katrina rank.

"My father worked in profanity the way other artists worked in oils or clay. It was his true medium."  Best line in a movie chock full of 'em.

OK, I'm officially bored now -- Zebra-trina seals the deal.  Obviously last week would be hard to beat, but this is 2 snoozefests in a row.

Yes, I'll BOS "GP" by GP. Best of a typically katrinish lot, as we walk thru the fire of Dave's selective '80s memory.

BOS2 from me as well.  Perhaps a bustout?  This is one of those albums I take for granted, having heard it so much that year.

Alas, no--twice before this in the DB, in 04 and 06.

Dave's played songs in the wrong year so why not movies in the wrong year?

12/11/2007 - Tuesday! The wheel stops on...1984!!

1.  Honeydrippers - Rockin' at Midnight
2.  Thompson Twins - The Gap
3.  Manfred Mann - The Runner
4.  Stevie Ray Vaughan - Couldn't Stand the Weather (BEST OF SET!!)
5.  Cars - Hello Again
6.  Zebra - Bears
7.  General Public - General Public
8.  Peter Gabriel - Walk Through the Fire
9.  Billy Joel - The Longest Time
10.  Psychedelic Furs - Heaven

BONUS TRACK:  The Smiths - What Difference Does it Make?

Totally missed this bonus track. More remarkable by far than anything else in the set. I assume it was Annalisa and not Powers or Rosalie.
