Dave began his week with '77; Bob ends his the same way. Since I was wrong the other day, I'll predict Buffett again: "Changes in Latitudes..."

At the top of the hour I was still driving, and Renee used "Baby Elephant Walk" as her traffic bed.  Since it seemed that the morning show was between things (Luce coming on right about now probably) I called in and asked if I could tell my Henry Mancini story.  So Dave said "Sure" & so I did, but I was truly surprised that they played it back after the song ended.  Ali heard it and called me on my cell, too.

I thought for sure I'd told it before. Ali seemed to recognize it.

very abridged version, I had a limo gig to pick Mancini up at his Bel Air mansion, drive him to SD & check him into the Omni.  Next day pick him up at 6:45 & take him to local TV studio for a morning show appearance, then return him to Bel Air an hour later.  On the way down the 405 he fell asleep in the back in a most unnatural position & I became convinced that he had expired.  I called his name & when that didn't work I began jerking the wheel in hopes of jarring him awake, which went on for about 10 minutes before he finally rolled over into a more natural position & began to snore audibly.  Big relief.  I embellished this a bit in telling Dave et al.

Later when I brought him home the next day I asked if I could use the bathroom, mostly becasue I wanted to see the inside of the house.  He reluctantly agreed, and the cook showed my through the kitchen to a servants bathroom, but I could step into the formal dining room & saw on a mantle 30 or so feet away all of his Oscars.  So that was the payoff.

Actually I like "Wondrous Stories". But then I always liked Wakeman -- wish Dave or Bob would pull out an excerpt from Journey to the Center of the Earth some morning.

BTW I have the first of many every-other-Friday meetings (a class, actually) starting today, and boy am I pissed since Fridays tend to be special.  So enjoy and make copious comments.

did you hear Renee's Rock 'n' Roll Thingy yesterday?  She had a bit on how Her Ethereal Highness is putting together a Vegas show for Caesar's, including the marketing hype quoting Stevie saying all the "one-of-a-kind" and "never-before-seen" BS.  Then Renee closed by saying, with more than a hint of irony in her voice:

"Caesar's is Elton John & Celine Dion's home away from home, too."

It's something like this: she denied, under oath, all knowledge of a shooting perpetrated by members of her posse at a club in 2001, but video surveillance not available at the original trial was later discovered showing her standing right next to the alleged shooters.

To elaborate: the shooting was the result of a longstanding feud between Lil' Kim and equally-enhanced (and even less-talented) rapper Foxy Brown.  It took place outside the Hot 97 radio station on Hudson Street, the same place where 50 Cent's and The Game's cliques did their bit for white racists two weeks ago.

Even us white NON-racists think some of these folks are low-life idiots and/or sociopaths.  Sad that everyone gets tarred with the same brush, but -- even sadder -- that's hardly a new phenomenon.

Wait -- there's someone less talented than Li'l Kim?!?

that's nice. where's jesse jackson? say it loud: i'm black and i'm packing!

so i heard fifty pennies new album the other night. i don't know about the words, but the music isn't so bad. of course, it's produced by dr. dre and slim shady, so i would expect nothing less.

still - the shooting thing is so passe. would that fistfights return as the norm for turf wars. a bitch slap match between kim and foxy? that would sell more tickets than the thrilla in manila.
