Title: 26 Nov 2007--it's 1973!!
Post by: urth on November 26, 2007, 10:00:34 AM
And a fabulous start to the week indeed!

Allmans' Jessica (?) to lead off. (I always get these Allman instrumentals mixed up--I just know it's not In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.)

it's "Jessica" for Jessica's birthday, unless I misheard Dave's intro. One of 2 GREAT instrumentals from '73 named after women -- the other being "Sylvia" by Focus, which I wish somebody would resurrect some morning.

That's what I get for not paying more attention to the birthday club. Well, yay for Jessica the woman and Jessica the song, and for those of us listening.

BOS EWG, takin' a "Free Ride".  Why wasn't this as big a hit as "Frankenstein"?

I need to take it easy, but I anticipate a stressful call with my boss later.  He gets really cranky more often than not.  Oh well.

BOS3 NYC -- a fab record, even tho' I still think the song needs one more verse.

Guilty Displeasure: Stories, covering Hot Chocolate.  Their McCartneyesque "I'm Coming Home" from the previous year (which just missed being a Top 40 hit) is worth seeking out.

for some reason that Strawbs tune comes up a lot more often on my MP3 player than mere random shuffle play could account for.

Between the Allmans and Floyd tunes this may be a longer-than-average set.

Wish I could listen in (giving a quiz right now).  It's always hard for me to hear this on the radio, and not have them track into the next cut, Our Lady of the Well.  The transition between the two songs is so delicately beautiful, that it jars me when I don't hear it!

That's part of the problem with DSOTM, all the songs pretty much sound the same.  Time has alarm clocks at the beginning, otherwise I couldn't tell it from any of the others.

Dave sez JB "borrowed" this song from the Eagles? Ahem, I beg to differ! He cowrote it with Glenn Frey--the Eagles did release it first, but to say he borrowed it--sorry, that's just wrong.

from whom Johnny Rivers really did  "borrow" "Slow Dancin' (Swayin' to the Music)".  I remember playing the orig version on my college station, lamenting the fact that it didn't become a hit -- so I was thrilled when the Rivers version actually went somewhere.

I just mentioned Jack Tempchin the other day re: Take It Easy.  He wrote Slow Dancin' which is on the historic Funky Kings album, which I can't find on CD.  I have the vinyl.

Well, I'm guessing it's a combination of senility and confusion due to the interface.  I guess I always resented the Rivers version, as I really loved the Funky Kings version!

TANC-of-the-Week: Someone (no idea who) is doing a country version of "Slow Dancin" on this classic country station in Dallas I've been listening to!
