we haven't done "strictly instrumental" in a while.

BOS2 "HGM", feat JPJ iirc.

Not sure about JPJ, but his bandmate JP (the guy with the busted pinky) is on it, fer sure.

I'm issuing a pre-emptive 10-way-tie...  with a special award to the Chambers Bros megamix.

Whoa, this is a little bit of a surprise--and serious BOS candidate as well--Moodies, Tuesday Afternoon. (Second Moodies track this week too--we heard IJAS(IARARB) on Monday.)

Cue HHH, RFK and Teddy--it's the megamix!

(Second time it's been brought out this year, too--before that I think it had been played only twice!)

Dang.  Missing most of this with a meeting at 10:30.

Didja hear on the pop quiz this morning?  Female caller called him "dude".  He says, "nobody calls me dude unless you wake up with me".  Possibly TMI.  She said she wakes up with him every morning.  Awwww.

Wow. 1968 was one turbulent year. If all this happened today, GW'd declare martial law.

I'd like "Tuesday Afternoon" better as a strictly instrumental.

And say, for all you armchair QBs: Would LBJ have fared better against Tricky Dick had he stayed in for '68?

He'd get sued from here to hell, but I'd love to see Dave issue this THCT megamix as a promo single, kinda like Tom Clay's old "What the World Needs Now" mash.

I haven't ruled that possibility out ever since 2/15/03.  I still don't trust Bush not to do something CRAZAY.

No. HHH lost because ultimately he was seen as Lyndon's Lapdog by too many.  LBJ himself would've fared even worse.

well, we're falling back on a few standbys now. As much as I love "Grazin'..." it's a '68 Katrina, I reckon. But the ChambersMix makes me cut Dave major slack.

I normally listen with one channel so as not to tune out my surroundings entirely -- and in most years it doesn't matter. But this has been a "true stereo" set from the git-go.

The megamix is what I'll cast my vote for, but pretty much everything else is firmly into 9-way tie territory.

You may well be right. What's this voiceover at the end? Part of the record or another ebellishment from DM?

Yet another BOS to Bookends, Paulie and Artie.

Geoff, do you recall when the Dead used the Chambers Brothers tune to play at midnight one New Years as part of an audio montage when the balloons dropped? Cranked to 11 thru their PA it sounded AMAZING, with it bouncing to all four corners of the Coliseum (they were running a modified quad system for effects like that).

it's part of the record -- some old black guy (it's hard to make out what he's saying, but it's something about being poor).  As I've explained before (speaking of old people telling the same stories), the song was written for a Public Service ad campaign about helping the "inner cities" as we liked to call the ghetto back then.  There were white-on-black buttons that said "Give a Damn." (I may still have mine -- gotta look tonite.)

I remember them using the "Time!  Time!" shtick; not the whole song.  But hey, if it was NYE...

Which could apply in my case as well... ;)
