that would be my guess too.

DINGDINGDINGDING.....

Welcome to the FUTURE!
-
BOS TOTHC Jimi!
-
Least necessary: Lee Michaels
-
Very fast start--Hendrix, Freedom. I'd have said it was a bustout, but the Shraytabase knows all and it says my memory is failing. One previous appearance within its purview, about 4 1/2 years ago.
-
BOS2 The Cat Man, gawd how I loved this when it was a hit. I got Teaser & the Firecat for Xmas that year.
-

agreed.
BOS the Catman, another song we haven't heard from Dave in 4 1/2 years.
-
BOS3 NGDB!
-
believe it or not, NGDB is a Db bustout. Not just the song, the band.
I know they've popped up in the distant past, but not for AGES.
-
BOS4 The Drug Report!
-
BOS, Mr Bojangles. God I loved this when i was 12.
This should go in another thread, but since we are all here:

BOS3 NGDB!
Now THIS appears to be a bustout.
Free association: KROY, one of the top 40 stations mentioned in that Sacto Radio History essay I posted the other day, had this recorded bit about "Uncle Murph and his dog Fotchell" that they'd always play as a lead-in to this song. Never knew if it was something they made up, or something off a comedy record of the day (the Committee? Firesign?). Haven't heard it since.

BOS4 The Drug Report!
Ah, the good ol' PharmChem report, guaranteed to garner a few BOS votes. Those were the days. And tres apropos before the Floyd!

that is one of his best.
" a reed-thin, black-clad, heavily sequined Jimmy Page is so violently violating his Les Paul with a shredded violin bow it sounds like demons f-ing in a hurricane."
and I love his line about Across the Universe: "a cute movie musical that wants to be Hair but is really High School Musical with better drugs". ROTFL!

wasn't Fotchell the name of Alice & Ray's dog in "Alices Restaurant"?
Don't Pull your Katrinas out on us, Dave.
-
BOS3 HJF&R. Serious jr. high flashbacks. But man, do these guys sound white.
-
she took 2 Tylenol and now she's Freda Payne!
Super Duper BOS5 and proxy of Gaz, "Bring the Boys Home"... or as Robert Christgau famously quipped: "Vietnam with violins"

That's actually on the album Dirt, Silver & Gold, a triple LP which is what most boxed sets aspire to be.
-
OMFG! Dave plays something from Tapestry! Talk about bustouts and/or rarities! BOS6.

DAY-UM. Never knew that. Now I gotta go find me a copy. Which may or may not be easy, depending on whether it's in print or not, now that Village Music is but a memory.

It's the latter--heard it twice in '04.

I liked this bit too:
Zep went no such route. They were into full-length furs and platform boots and exotic Middle-Eastern musical motifs, Aleister Crowley and Norse mythology and references to Valhalla and Thor and "The Lord of the Rings." You know, just like Spinal Tap. Only better.

I'd wager that it's one of maybe 3 tracks from that LP Dave has played, along with "It's Too late" and (maybe) "Smackwater Jack".
-
OMG!!!! Another first-timer and a personal fave (although I didn't discover it anywhere near 1971): Yes, Starship Trooper.
BOS5? 6? I lost track.

Either Bob or Rob played this quite recently, but kudos to Dave if it's a bustout. This set more than makes up for getting '89 & '94 back-to-back.
-
"the proud sons and daughters that knew the knowledge of the land"
another bustout, and another extended Prog Rock anthem. Mshray is in heaven.
-
some people are up to no good! VHM Dramatics. HAH!
Dave shoulda played RuPaul's cover of this yesterday.
-
I wouldn't have guessed, but we've only heard this Dramatics cut once before--also 2004--that set also had the Carole King, HJF&R, and Lee Michaels tunes.
-
Bah, I felt like I shot my wad early w/ my BOS to Carole King when I heard "What You Want"...
OTOH, as you say, it was so nice hearing something from Tapestry. That was such a nice thing to discover in my parents' record collection. Which reminds me -- I need to steal the record player and the record back from them. :-}

As we've said before, given that Tapestry is one of the biggest-selling LPs of all time., it's odd how few tracks Dave has played -- in fact Ms King tends to get short shrift from Dave all around. We've never heard anything from Music, "Jazzman" shows up occasionally... and that's pretty much it. Her cover of "One Fine Day" would brighten a dreary early-'80s set.
-
Another high-quality bonus from Annalisa and the foghead: pre-Ziggy Bowie, Life on Mars.
-
Woo Hoo! Bonus: Bowie, "Life on Mars"!!! Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow!
Am I the only one who's heard Streisand's cover of this?
-
nice bonus, Bowie, Life on Mars.
groovy, marsha

is it "Lenin" or "Lennon" who's "on sale again"?

OMG! I hope that is on iTunes.

Not sure, but I'd bet that double entendre was intentional.

Reminds me of the Firesign Theatre LP with "Marx and Lennon" (Groucho and John) on the cover.

My favorite Goffin/King song is "Goin' Back" from Notorious Byrd Brothers. Totally awesome, and I don't know if Dave's ever played anything from that album.
-
I usually BOS PF, but Jimi and Freda woulda been nice to hear too!

Dusty Springfield's cover of "Goin' back" is sublime, and Ms King has recorded it more than once, iirc (once with The City and once solo? or am I confused?)

I'm in for the Sat replay. Missed Friday completely.

I slept in this morning, and apparently Dave has (for once) saved the best 2 sets for last: '71 followed by '79.

And indeed, Alicat happened to record the set that day and sent me a cassette copy.
Sorry I missed this set! BOS could have gone in 8 or 9 directions.
And when my birthday rolls around, I think I might beg Dave to play something from Carole King and Maurice Sendak's Really Rosie in a '75 set.
