...heard the promo as I was finally finishing my New & Improved Db.
So, just for kicks, see if you can rank the 1993 Katrinas from most egregious to least (minimum occurrence rate of 20% from the 13 '93 sets to date to make the list, there are obviously lots of multi-way ties).
4 Non Blondes - What's Up?
Annie Lennox - Little Bird
Blind Melon - No Rain
Cranberries - Dreams
Elton John - The Simple Life
Haddaway - What Is Love?
Phish - Lifeboy
Radiohead - Creep
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Soul To Squeeze
Soul Asylum - Runaway Train
Squeeze - Everything In The World
Stereo MCs - Connected
Stone Temple Pilots - Plush
Tasmin Archer - Sleeping Satellite
Tears For Fears - Break It Down Again
Tim Finn - Persuasion
Widespread Panic - Pickin' Up The Pieces
Widespread Panic - Wondering
For Bonus Frink points, the above songs represent what % of the total number of 1993 tunes in the Db (get within 2% to win)
For Double Secret Bonus Frink points, which of the above songs is from an album that came out in late Mar 1994, and yet Dave always plays it in 1993?

Annie Lennox - Little Bird (this HAS to be at or near the top)
Stereo MCs - Connected
4 Non Blondes - What's Up?
Blind Melon - No Rain
Cranberries - Dreams
Haddaway - What Is Love?
Tears For Fears - Break It Down Again (is this including its errant '89 plays?)
Radiohead - Creep
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Soul To Squeeze
Stone Temple Pilots - Plush
Tasmin Archer - Sleeping Satellite
Tim Finn - Persuasion
Widespread Panic - Pickin' Up The Pieces
Soul Asylum - Runaway Train
Widespread Panic - Wondering
Elton John - The Simple Life (I thought Dave only played this on Pride days)
Phish - Lifeboy
Squeeze - Everything In The World
I'm gonna say these comprise 48% of what we've heard. (No Portrait?)
And I'm gonna guess the Elton was actually '94.
-
(No Portrait?)
I was thinking the same thing but I think Dave has played that equally in '92 & '93 (or is it '93 & '94?) -- it's one of those on-the-cusp-of-2-years things.
-

Portrait will qualify as soon as Dave plays it today.
-
BOS U2, just for not being on the 'trina list above.

Better Portrait than Haddaway, sez me.
-
wow, I'm surprised Gabriel's "Steam" isn't on that list -- it sure got lots of KFOG play in '93. Dave knows his culture from his trash.
-
Steam is hitting me as kinda meh today. Sort of a Sledgehammer redux. And I like PG a lot.
ETA: And I just realized it was in the Peak's 92 set earlier today. Guess it's one of those songs that goes both ways--I know it was released in 92.
-
"Runaway Train" moves up a notch on the list.

Seemed awfully long this morning. Just went on and on.

Yeah, but it got more airplay in '92, when both the single & album were released AND peaked on the charts. That being said, however, my Db only has Dave playing it once in '92 and never in '93. Until now.
-
HM, TP. Pleasant, if a little dull. Sleepy morning, so far.
-
BOS U2, just for not being on the 'trina list above.
that one is now 2 fer 14. That's about average. I like the song & it might be my BOS if Dave has no other surprises in store for us.
-
another one I'm surprised is not on that list: World Party.
-
So why don't the rest of you take a stab at the questions at the top like Gaz did? So's you don't fall asleep & such.
;-)
-
"Runaway Train" moves up a notch on the list.
Not a bad song at all, though I far preferred "Black Gold."
-

making it's 3rd (& qualifying) appearance today, but we only heard it in '02 & '05, so it really isn't overexposed yet.

Love to, but there's this thing called work...
BOS World Party.
And here's another one off the K list.
-

I agree with Gaz about the Lennox -- gotta be in the top 3, certainly. I'll say the percentage is more like 60.
And he's wrong about EJ, Top40DB has that song firmly in '93, tho' I've no idea what the right answer is.
And heeeere's "Connected"!

Yes he & you certainly are correct. Annie has shown up an astonishing 7 out of 13 times (as has one of the next half dozen tracks on his list). Haddaway was alone in 2nd place at 5/13. And as long as he doesn't pop up today "Connected" now moves into a tie with him.
But I gotta give Stereo MC's a sledgehammer VHM in spite of it all. Was doing a lot of clubbing in '93, and this song always packed the dance floor.

Work shmerk!
Throw out a % guess at least, Gaz was rather high.
-
I'm guessing Sting's not on the list because Dave spreads the love among several tracks from 10 Sumner, er, Summoners Tales. BOS "Fields of Gold", still lovely after all these years.
-
Gaz was rather high.
If only.
-
"I WANNABE JI-MI": BOS to Lenny K (on the anniv of Jimi's death, no less).
-
The former Mr Lisa Bonet, "Are You Gonna Sound Like Jimi?"
-
"I WANNABE JI-MI": BOS to Lenny K (on the anniv of Jimi's death, no less).
Jimi Jinxi!

In fact I still rather like just about all the Katrinas in this year, so Dave's lack of exploration doesn't bother me in this year nearly as much as in most others. Including Haddaway (for the same dance club reasons above)...and now ditto for Lenny! BOS #1 from me.
mshray now dreaming about that lady drummer in the video...

An end to witch hunts? Bull fucking shit. But I won't trash the entire Clinton presidency on the subject of DADT since we've seen the subsequent CIC do so much worse. Seven years ago I voted as a gay man. Three years ago I voted as an American. Next year I shall vote merely as a citizen of the world.
-

Spot On!
Dave has played 4 tracks, and this is only the 2nd to get a replay.

OK, 26%.

Nicely put.
I'll only append "Next year I shall vote merely as a pissed off citizen of the world."
-
HM to TFF, not a great single but a solid album track.

Correct answer is 28% (18/64)
think about it. 13 sets reprsents 130 potential slots, and Dave has filled just less than half of them.
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
-
Still, pop and R&B are woefully underrepresented in '93 sets. Tina Turner, MJ, Madonna would all be preferable to Haddaway, which I just think is a dreadful record -- WOS.
-

-
Gotta say, it's amazing that Scott Weiland's survived 15 years in the biz. Especially when Jimi couldn't make it past 5.
-

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
The dogs have begun to smell this set, made bearable only by Mark's contest. Thanks, bub.
-

That's beautiful.
hey I need an appeal to the judges, should I break out "Plush" into separate 'accoustic demo' & 'album track' listings? This is at least the second time out of 4 that Dave went with the former. Both tracks are on the LP.
-

Rehab wasn't nearly as fashionable in '70.

I vote to lump 'em together, mainly beacause I've never liked the song much.
-
I was literally holding my breath. Dave said, "but most of the votes went to.......(and if he finished with "Annie Lennox" I was really going to gag)......but it was the far less egregious Gabriel.
FWIW, the other really egregious Katrina was/is "Dreams", which, again, I still like for Sledgehammer reasons in spite of it all.
So give Dave credit (at least a tiny bit) for swerving around his two biggest temptations in '93.
-

And of the 10 songs in today's set, four of them were on your list, yes? (Haddaway, Soul Asylum, STP, and Stereo MCs). What does that do to the overall K percentage?

Glad to be of service. I saw my duty and done it as best I could.
Geoff, whenever you pop in, tell me where to send my Db file so that it can be posted/shared. It's as good now as it's going to be for a while.

Given that at least two other tracks are now joining the list at over 20%, it raises it, past 30% total.

09/18/2007 - We got yer TUESDAY set right here...
1. U2 - Some Days Are Better Than Others
2. Peter Gabriel - Steam (BEST OF SET!!)
3. Soul Asylum - Runaway Train
4. World Party - Is It Like Today
5. Stereo MCs - Connected
6. Sting - Fields Of Gold
7. Lenny Kravitz - Are You Gonna Go My Way
8. Tears For Fears - Cold
9. Haddaway - What is Love??????
10. STP - Plush (acoustic)
TFF & Lenny K. were actually a bustouts, but the only ones.
And the correct answer for the Double Secret Bonus Frink Points was "Lifeboy" by Phish.
