just heard the promo, possibly the earliest in the day I've ever heard what tomorrow's set will be.
-
Here are some 1975 tunes that Dave has played, but only rarely, that I hope he plays again someday:
Art Garfunkel - Breakaway
Amazing Rhythm Aces - Third Rate Romance
Bob Marley - Trench Town Rock
Grateful Dead - Franklin's Tower
Jacksons - I Am Love
Jefferson Starship - Fastbuck Freddie
Kraftwerk - Autobahn
Paul Simon - Have a Good Time
Ramsey Lewis with Earth, Wind & Fire - Sun Goddess
Styx - Light Up
Tubes - White Punks on Dope
...and here are some that I hope Dave plays someday, which cracked the Top 40, but have not cracked my Db:
Alice Cooper - Only Women Bleed
BTO - Roll On Down the Highway
Charlie Daniels Band - The South's Gonna Do It
Chicago - Harry Truman
Janis Ian - At Seventeen
Joan Baez - Diamonds and Rust
John Denver - Calypso
Marshall Tucker Band - Fire on the Mountain
Neil Sedaka - The Immigrant
Outlaws - There Goes Another Love Song
Paul McCartney & Wings - Letting Go
Rhythm Heritage - Theme from "S.W.A.T."
ETA: added the Outlaws, realizing this was a banner year for Southern Rock.

those are all fab choices -- I can't believe "Only Women Bleed" isn't a Morey fave. Ditto the Sedaka, it's the loveliest and most heartfelt of his '70s singles.
But I'm sure that (pre-shraytabase) Dave's played the BTO, Chicago, Janis Ian and "S.W.A.T." at least once each. Mr. Denver, alas, is in Dave's category of "I'm afraid to play ________, people will call up and yell at me" (along with Manilow, and any Carpenters' song besides "Goodbye to Love").

Attempting to plant a few seeds, Mr Shray? Good for you--hope some of them take root.
I seem to remember Dave playing John Denver's Thank God I'm a Country Boy (once) and if he could play that, he can play Calypso.
-

Figured as much myself, especially the latter two. And I'm quite certain Bob had played the former two since I've been listening to the Drive.

Any of what's been posted in this thread would be a treat for me. Especially "Calypso," which I don't believe I've ever heard. (If I did, it was in '75.)
I'll predict that we are indeed due for "Fast Buck Freddie." And I'll bet on some Ohio Players, "Fire," or else KC (was "Boogie Man" in '75?).
Nobody cares how you wear your hair, dahling!

Sadly I'll be at a 10:00 meeting...

early BOS Manhattan Transfer, one of the songs that Dave has played somewhat more than rarely that I was hoping for when I was reviewing things yesterday.
-
Tramps like Katrina were born to run. This set is less than I'd hoped for so far.
-
World Turning is even less rare, as is Born To Run. Both great songs, but nowhere close to the rarities you were hoping for. Still, out of 10 songs, I think the best you could hope for is one or two of those, so we still have plenty of opportunity.

Actually "WT" was a Db bustout when we heard it two '75 sets ago, it's just not at all a rarity in terms of general radio listening. And like I said, we heard it the set before last, in late June.
ETA: almost the same for 10CC. "Blackmail" is the Katrina, and although Dave hasn't played "I'm Not In Love" for over 2 yrs, you hear it all the time on the radio anyway.
-
10cc's succulent I'm Not In Love--the impeccable production makes me glad to have a decent pair of cans here at work for this one. Still not hitting high on the rarity scale, but barring anything better this will likely be my BOS vote.
-
I'm enjoying this instrumental, but blanking on it. The Dregs?
-
Todd's Initiation, here's the popular BOS winner. And like most of the rest of the set, we've heard it a time or two.
-

Jeff Beck. Constipated Duck?

Nah, that was Mr. Beck. Off of Blow by Blow, but except for one or two, I can't remember the names of the tunes.

Yep, not in the more distant past, but at least a couple times a year the last couple years.
-
Y'know, we may have heard these songs a time or two, but it still remains that these are pretty much great songs right down the line. Not the rarities Mark had been hoping for, but when has Dave ever acceded to any predictions posted herein? I'd say this is still a pretty fine set.

Bowie's SUTLM, otoh, has been played at least twice yearly going back as far as my records.
Looks like this set is heading in the same direction as yesterday, 2 nice to hear less common tunes (Who & Pretenders yesterday, Manhattan Transfer & Jeff Beck today) and 8 retreads.

Okay, you've got a point. But I never cared much for this remake of "Never Can Say Goodbye".
-
BOS, Bad Company.
I'm a man
i got my pride
dont need no woman
to hurt me inside
sing it paul
-
BOS Bad Company. A bustout apparently.
Not a bustout, but I really never get tired of hearing it: The Rockford theme.
-
OK, one blatant katrina to wrap it up--I could go several years and not miss hearing the Rockford Files.

I don't get the attraction to this one either. Played way too often for my tastes.

Mike Post -- underappreciated genius. '70s and '80s TV would not have been the same without him. But I wish Dave would play "Hill St Blues" half as often as "Rockford".
-
1. Manhattan Transfer - That Cat is High
2. Fleetwood Mac - World Turning
3. Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run (BEST OF SET!!)
4. 10cc - I'm Not in Love (BEST OF SET!!)
5. Jeff Beck - Constipated Duck
6. Todd Rundgren - Initiation (BEST OF SET!!)
7. David Bowie - Somebody Up There Likes Me
8. Gloria Gaynor - Never Can Say Goodbye
9. Bad Company - Good Lovin' Gone Bad
10. Mike Post - Theme From Rockford Files
BONUS TRACK: Little Feat - All That You Dream
Looks like Annalisa scored again today. Good lord, "Born To Run"? Dave's def played that in a '75 set within the last 3 months. Manhattan Transfer is a rarity, but I'd've still preferred "Operator". My BOs woulda been Beck --quite rare if not a bustout.
-

OTOH, gets my BOS vote. HM to Bowie and to Disco Gaynor (who did an even better job with "Reach Out, I'll Be There" on the same album).
-

I know Dave's played "Constipated Duck" before because in the back announce he chuckled as he said it, and I know he's chuckled saying it before. Ducks are inherently funny (a man walks into a bar with a duck on his head), and constipated ducks just crack Dave up.

they quack me up too.

we've heard it once each in '03, '04 & '05, the last being an all-request Strictly Instrumental set.
