It WILL happen!
but it will happen early. 10@9:55....

I heard Mshray talking about raising children on the Morning Show!
Or at least someone who sounds like him.

Yeah, I missed the intro. What did he say?
VHM for Simple Minds "Waterfront" though.

As I recall Hey Mark, I got it. It WILL happen."
Something like that.
-
Yeah, I missed the intro. What did he say?
"To Mark: It WILL happen!" or words to that effect.
Eeeewwwww, what's that smell?! Oh, Phil Collins.

LOL.
-
well this is also not bad, the last Genesis song that I liked, "Home By The Sea" (got an updated but still recognizable Abacab vibe to it.)
but this wasn't preceeded by Don Pardo was it? So he's not doing a twin spin with "Second Home By The Sea", n' c'est pas?
-

Eeeewwwww, what's that smell?! Oh, Phil Collins.
"sit down, you're rocking the boat!"
-
is that what you "superintended" to say? what a fine use of that word.
-
Last night's Jeopardy had a category most of you would have done very well in: Most #1s. I only remember the complete clue to the easiest:
Joe Jackson
Janet Jackson
Michael Jackson
There was another one that included Phil Collins, which is why it popped into my head just now.
-
Who is this giving a shout-out to the Clash?
"Don't keep waiting for that Train in Vain"
New to me.

i was thinking the same thing.
bowie love!! jareth love! ziggy love!

Sorry, I stand by my Phil Collins dislike. Oh, wait! I guess I should quote a musical...
"AT LAST, MY ARM IS COMPLETE AGAIN!!!"

and now my favorite song from Let's Dance. I wonder if Dave realizes that he played a 1983 set by request for my 40th two years ago? So far none of the same tunes.

woo-hoo BOS the Clash!
-
BOS "Straight to Hell"!
Papapapapapasan!
"It ain't Coca-Cola -- it's rice!"

woo-hoo BOS the Clash!
Pretty excellent set so far. 83 is one of the better 80's years.
-
83 is one of the better 80's years.
I'd second that. Pretty much '80-'83, with some flashes of brilliance in '84.
Of course, I'm biased.
-
VHM: "Straight to hell, boy ..." A downer set so far; I hope Dave lightens up with some frilly New Wave soon ...
-
Oh no! It's Beej's cloning song!
-
I've been absent from the list... FINALLY, all my documents have been converted to Indesign. I never thought the day would come that a program would trump Quark, but Indesign is coming pretty close, though I've only been working a few weeks with it.
i wonder if Dave would do a 1985 set for my bday on the 10th 8)
-
Uh-oh! Time to start "feeling like I'm cloned"...
LOL! Jinx, Gaz!! I'm so fucking predictable.
-
well, there it went. But mixed feelings from me. Twilight Zone is okay, but it wasn't ever gonna be one that I requested. On the other hand I have an 11:00 presentation, so maybe I won't miss the end of the set.

welcome back Steve. It wouldn't hurt to ask. In case you missed it what I asked for was to hear Don Pardo say "Ladies & Gentlemen, the LOOOONG version." And what we get is Golden Earring.
-
not exactly a high-water mark in long versions, IMHO

Didn't even know there was a long version of this. Or a short version.

LOL! Yeah, there can be only ONE!
And now that I think about it- I think I'd like the plural of 'Beej' to just be 'Beeji'.

"Electric Ave." always reminds me of the parody by Oy! George & Kosher Club, "Melrose Ave." There was even a video.

Uh, Dave plays this quite frequently, it's practically a Katrina. And it's stretching a bit to play it in '83 -- it wasn't a single. But I guess the LP was still on the charts a year later.

"Where the lights are bright, and joy is complete:
B - O - S to 'Greenflower Street'."

I thought it was a little too familiar to me to be much of a breakout. Where else would I have become familiar with it?

I'm with ya on this one, Gaz.

i had to call dave back and split my vote between prince and fagen.
ok, so it's not a gomer. but still a nice listen!

the nightfly was definitely the most sophisticated album, dave. :)

I think my email was in the "lost page of email" category. Phooey.

what's the 10@10 year deadline again? 10 years, or eleven years? are we due for a 1994 set this year? if so, i may request some jeff buckley for my bday.

It's nine. We've been to '94 a couple times ("Laid" by James is an early First Katrina contender), last year we hit '95 once and we're overdue for our first '96 set.

hmm...ok, i'll see if there's anything i'd want from '96 for my birthday...i'll have to find a top 40 chart.

thanks. i see now why 1996 has yet to receive a spin. any songs from that list that kfog might play would be pure torture.
i think i'll just ask for any set that would include either, jeff buckley, jonatha brooke, or esther phillips.

1996 wasn't as bad as one might infer from the charts: many of the year's better tunes didn't chart b/c the artists' labels wouldn't release them as singles (forcing the customers to buy albums instead -- a policy that can be directly blamed for the astonishing adoption of file-sharing proggies like Napster). You could choose from the following:
Poe, "Angry Johnny"
Fiona Apple, "Shadowboxer"
No Doubt, "Don't Speak" or "Spiderwebs"
Smashing Pumpkins, "33"
R.E.M., "E-Bow the Letter" (or was this '97?)
Oasis, "What's the Story, Morning Glory?"
Alanis Morissette, "Head Over Feet"
Fastball, "The Way"
302, "Where My Girls At?"
Marilyn Manson, "Sweet Dreams Are Made of This" (I DARE Dave to play this!)
-
Also, Gin Blossoms, "Until I Fall Away" or "Til I Hear It From You."
-
I'll post my own selections tonite after I dig out my "best of '96" tape, but I'm positive "The Way" is from '98...
-
Missed today totally. Never tuned into anything. Just saw this and tuned in in time to hear Dave mention got it from Mark in Santa Clara. wooo hooo.

-

My personal faves from '96:
"You're One", Imperial Teen
"Popular", Nada Surf
"Pepper", Butthole Surfers
"Blue", LeAnn Rimes (when she was good)
"Charmless Man", Blur
"Ladykillers", Lush
"High-Fivin' Motherf**ker", Local H
What's Left?, the Foremen
BR5-49, BR5-49
and I second Gaz's endorsement of Oasis & No Doubt.
Predictions of what Dave will play:
"Standing Outside a Broken etc", Primitive Radio Gods
"1979", Smashing Pumpkins
"Breakfast at Tiffany's", Deep Blue Something
"Change the World", Clapton
"Counting Blue Cars", Dishwalla
"Free As a Bird", Beatles (yay)
"I Want To Come Over", M. Etheridge
"I Saw You First (Key west whatever)", Mellencamp
"Private Conversation", Lyle Lovett
No Doubt, Jewel, Alanis
But will Dave dare play "The Macarena"? Will he play the Fugees' "Killing Me Softly" (even tho' he's never played the Roberta Flack original)?
-

I'm still here and check in at night when the day is too busy. Too much Sh$! at work. From 9-about noon I was in one meeting or another. Day got busy after that much down time.
-
looking through the iTunes Billboard Hot 100 list from 1996, and deleting stuff I don't recognize (I'm not as knowledgeable as you young'uns) here are some suspects for a 1996 set someday:
Ironic Alanis Morissette
Follow You Down Gin Blossoms
Change the World Eric Clapton
Name The Goo Goo Dolls
You Learn Alanis Morissette
Wonder Natalie Merchant
Breakfast at Tiffany's Deep Blue Something
The World I Know Collective Soul
Time Hootie & The Blowfish
Hook Blues Traveler
Closer to Free The BoDeans
Old Man and Me Hootie & The Blowfish
If It Makes You Happy Sheryl Crow
As I Lay Me Down Sophie B. Hawkins
Jealousy Natalie Merchant
I Want to Come Over Melissa Etheridge
Only Wanna Be With You Hootie & The Blowfish
Don't Cry Seal
-
Wonder - Natalie Merchant
Ooh. Her finest moment. I thought of this when my friends Dave* and Rebecca had their baby lasy July.
Hook - Blues Traveler
Destined to become a 10@10 staple on the order of "Good Thing."
As I Lay Me Down - Sophie B. Hawkins
This was a hit in 1995 -- I remember b/c I played it constantly while living in Boston that summer. Since it was a massive AC hit, it may have still been on the charts in '96, though.
Don't Cry - Seal
This would be a stretch; the album was 1994, and though the singles were stretched out over a span of time, I don't think this was '96. But I'd be happy to hear it anyway.

i've never heard that sophie song. the only two songs of hers i know i "damn. i wish..." and her version of "i gotcha," which is fab.
seal won a grammy nod for "don't cry" in '96, i'm pretty sure. i have that song on some 1996 grammy compilation cd. i'll verify later.
