Smilin'Faces!

Instant BOS, and perfectly suited to my present mood.  Like I said in another thread, this week's off to a bad start.

Has anyone here ever heard the Tempts' version?  Apparently they were competing on the charts with this version and lost soundly.

I had a feeling today's set would be whatever Dave had originally planned for Friday, before the last-minute-suggestion Potter/Magic set happened.  And I guess this is it.

It's an unofficial -- and highly welcome -- Soul Patrol after two tracks so far.  Especially welcome since the past three sets this a.m. have been white as ... well, white as Skynyrd.

I dunno if they competed; the Tempts wasn't a single afaik, at least not at the same time.  I don't have Whitburn handy.

More (overplayed) '70s soul: "Shaft". They say that cat Xenu is a bad Thetan mutha.

"white queen" -- oh this is about chess? I thought they had just met Elton John for the first time and wrote a song about it.

Bowie's in Space!  VHM the Conchords.

This may be a Friday leftover, but it feels like a Monday autopilot set nonetheless.

BOS5 (and a breakout?) to "Disney Girls," which Cass Elliot covered to marvy effect a year later.

not a bustout, but it's been a long time between plays. Art Garfunkel did a lovely cover of this as well.  One of Brian's 2 or 3 all-time loveliest.

And wasn't nice that, in those simpler days of '71, Disney's lawyers did not make it necessary for Brian to spell it "Diz Knee Girls."

I got out of my appointment & back in the car just in time for the MTM clip.  Couldn't get back out until after the set was over, which meant I sat in the parking lot for about 10 minutes.  Good stuff.

Called in my vote for Badfinger, as it was the song my brother & his bride danced to 18 yrs ago.

Wife got up early this morning to do some volunteer work, so I was really glad I got out of bed & flipped on the marathon as Dave started off with this set.

Really sounded good, any chance anyone archived it?
