Title: 20 July 2007: it's a "magical" set...
Post by: RGMike on July 20, 2007, 07:36:02 AM
... in honor of Harry Potter. Dave never ceases to amaze -- all the great ideas for theme sets that he's passed on over the years, yet he gets excited about something like this.

Greg tried to persuade him to play Queen's "It's a Kind of Magic", and Dave said "We don't have it, and it wasn't a hit in the US". So... if I won Request-O-Rama and asked for it, I'd be out of luck? Whaaa??

Lessee...besides the previously mentioned ONJ and Cars songs...

Magic-Pilot
Pinball *wizard* (what other wizard songs are out there?)
I Put a Spell on You
Season of the Witch

This is starting to sound a lot like the Halloween set...

Indeed. I suppose Janet Jackson's "Black Cat" is too much to hope for...

maybe something from A Wizard, a True Star?

I'd be up for that, except I don't think there's a song by that name and I think it would go way over most Fogheads' heads.

On the other hand:

And who could forget something from Roy Wood and Wizzard?

I have no idea what this Overture is--it sounds kinda like that cheesy Trans-Siberian Orchestra that comes around every December playing metalized Christmas music.

"Magic man" -- duh!

Well Peter makes up for it.  I called in this morning & we swapped theories about what will happen.

Mine: Snape is good (remember, he's the Half-Blood Prince, so I think Voldemort is responsible for his muggle mother's death, which is why Dumbledore never doubted his motivation), Dumbledore isn't really dead, but Harry WILL die at the end.

Peter: Prof. Trewlawney is a goner, and Harry will call in a long overdue depb from Peter Pettigrew. He didn't fully say so, but he seemed to be leaning towards Harry dying also.

I'm actually dreading hearing details about the last book, before I get a chance to read it.  (My daughter is first in line in our family ... starting at 12:01 am tonight).  Luckily she reads really fast.   :)

With the last book I got a false spoiler, namely that Hagrid was the main character doomed to die, so imagine my surprise at the end!

Oh ho HO! it's BOS2 fer me.

BTW, I saw the new HP movie the other day, I've seen all 5, but I've only read the first book. So no more spoilers, guys.

After the 2nd movie I said "OK I've seen enuf", but then the 3rd one got raves, and indeed it was the best-directed of all (Alfonso Cuaron). So then i felt compelled to continue.

I found #4 the weakest, cinematically -- too long, and kind of "middle film"-ish (a la LOTR:TTT). I like the fact that for #5 they took the longest of the books and made the shortest of the films.
