Heard a weekend promo where Dave promises something from our least favorite decade. Happy Monday y'all!
ETA: it turns out to be 1991, does that mean Dave is actually going to play "Rico Suave"?
Why couldn't he play "O.P.P." instead?

Yuck -- altho' if it's our first visit to '97, i'd at least be interested to see what he plays. But i guess if it were '97, he'd've made a point of it.
-
I was hoping for '97. Instead we get a Girlfriend named Katrina in '91.
-
Did the stream address change? I couldn't connect without using the pop-up from KFrOG. And it sounds worse than it did last week through Winamp.
-
BOS to Seal's "Crazy" since I don't think the year gets much better than this. At least not as Dave recalls it (i.e., no Bell Biv DeVoe, Babyface, no Londonbeat, no New Jack Swing).
PS: Was I the only one here who enjoyed Alanis's cover of this?

Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend, one of the 5 big grievous Katrinas from '91. I bet Dave plays at least three of 'em. I also think I smell Iggy Pop "Candy", which is a minor Katrina.
The other 4 big grievous Katrinas:
Color Me Badd - All 4 Love
EMF - Unbelievable
Metallica - Enter Sandman
Rembrandts - Just the Way it is, Baby

I've been wondering the same thing, actually.

When I think about this song, I cut myself.

When I think about this song, I cut myself.
just to see if you're alive?

we got your skinny, gaz.

That's from some Goo Goo Dolls song, right? I couldn't tell you which one; they're all interchangeable to me.

Well, there's "Hurt" from Nine Inch Nails (and notably, Johnny Cash):
"I hurt myself today.
Just to see if I still feel."
-
Who's this singing with Ms. Raitt? Sounds a bit like Bobby Womack, but less prone to outbursts.
-
WOS to Jesus Jones, which I loved when it came out but succumbed to one of the worst cases of overkill in pop history.

Dat's Delbert, dude.

I was thinking of both actually, but the lyrics from "Iris" match more specifically:
When everything feels like the movies
And you bleed just to know you're alive

If Dave would play either of the other singles, "Real Real Real" (which was a solid Top Ten, iirc) or "International Bright Young Thing" it would help.
-
BOS2 to one of Mellencamp's best post-megastardom efforts.
-

Kinda like what's happening to the Plain White Tees this summer, n'c'est pas?

I'm afraid they're well on their way. A shame, too, since it's a pretty song to hear every once in a while.

RIP, Freddie.
-
I really wish, though, that Dave had followed up that tribute with "The Show Must Go On" or "Who Wants to Live Forever" rather than this Damn Yankees song.
-

was it "good man good woman"? if so, yup, it's bobby.

Hmm. Well, guess I wasn't paying attention. I'm thinking of a different song...
ETA: I take it all back!

The 10:00 meeting I thought would be 20 minutes turned out to be an hour. Glad to see I didn't miss a goddamn thang.
Meanwhile, the KPOO stream seems to be working, and working well, for a change.

07/16/2007 - Monday! Great times in...1991!!
1. Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend
2. Seal - Crazy
3. Divinyls - I Touch Myself (BEST OF SET!!)
4. Black Crowes - Twice As Hard
5. Bonnie Raitt with Delbert McClinton - Good Man, Good Woman
6. Jesus Jones - Right Here Right Now
7. Fixx - How Much is Enough
8. John Mellencamp - Love & Happiness
9. Crowded House - Weather Wtih You
10. Damn Yankees - High Enough
BONUS TRACK: EMF - Unbelievable
"Great times"? As Carla once said to Otis, "That's a matter of opinion, baby!" No escaping Crowded House in a CH-active year.
-
Listening on the replay, I had to note how American (the band, not the country) the Crowded House tune sounded. Indeed, to pick up Mike's thought from the other set that played this, I'm thinking that if America really wants some spotlight back (which apparently they do), they could record a cover of "The Weather With You" specifically for the Weather Channel to license. It'd be no "Friends theme," but it'd be a bit of visibility.

And in keeping with their other long-0running theme, they could put it on an album called "Humidity".

Nice! Very clever.
