Post by: urth on July 06, 2007, 10:01:54 AM
Listening to the stream today, as I left my radio in my other bag. Man, does this sound lousy.

And what just happened to the intro--we heard DP twice!!

I got a line on tomorrow's marathon -- it's gonna be quite enjoyable.  Guess I've just gotten used to crappy streams.  KFOG's is actually better than WLNG's, for one example.

Woo Hoo! BOS "Soul Deep"!!!

which means this is a 'new' classic - although Spirit have been the TotHK twice, "Soul Deep" only appears once in the Db, in the #8 spot.

Sorry to hear your day has been so sucky. But things should be gradually better toward next week, eh? (I may have a line on an all-star ticket, btw. Will keep you apprised.)

So it's settled, I'm taking our beloved Alicat out to lunch at her favorite sushi spot, so send all your positive vibes over to Ralston Ave at noon & we can cheer her up!

VHM I. Ron Butterfly -- we heard this in our last '69 excursion, iirc.

Betcha Dave's gives us a sibilant "S" when he says "SSSoul Experience".

Now Joni's got me wishing I were still in Chelsea.

au contraire, I have to give this a BOS as it was probably the only song in the set I was actually listening to when I was 6.  I later discovered that my folks had the Iron Butterfly LP, but I have no memory of hearing it as a child.

ETA: I guess it's not the only one, we certainly listened to all the S&G albums, including this one.  An even bigger BOS as this song helped me survive the most oppressive parts of my adolescence.

Have we (the group we) ever discussed our parents' listening habits?  My mom was an Eagles/Ronstadt/FMac devotee in the late '70s while I was gravitating to the Beatles and Barry Manilow.  I later discovered that she'd seen Dylan while he was still Zimmerman (I've never fact-checked this claim) and that she'd danced a few times with Bobby Vinton back in the 'Burgh well before he hit it big.

ETA: Her favorite post-'70s band, rather surprisingly, is UB40.

Is that Taxi Driver?  Had you not ID'd it as a film quote, I'd have thought it was a line from Son of Sam's missive.  See, the time I don't make for movies, I DO make for serial killers.  Or something like that.

That was from "Goodbye Columbus", right?  And he was talking to Richard Benjamin's character, whose name was Neil Klugman.

ETA: I meant the quote in the set, not the one in Mike's post.

Yup, TD.  TANC: looking forward to the ESPN miniseries about the summer of '77 (The Bronx is Burning), John Turturro's hilariously fake ears (he plays Billy Martin) notwithstanding.

Peoples let me tell y'all -- BOS Tyrone D as set-closer.

It think it's Joni at her most "poetic" -- what Christgau once called "writing like an English lit major" (he said it about Paul Simon, but it applies here too).
