TOTHK - "Perfect Way"
-
i'm bored. but this reminds me: there's a new jazz cover of this tears4fears song. it's not half bad. i don't remember the name of the band, though.

Well, we haven't heard it that frequently lately... but following it with TFF isn't an auspicious start IMHO. Dave's in vacay mode already, methinks.

Patti Smith just covered it too. That's not what you're thinking of, is it?

All Katrina wants to do is dance.
-
can I beat Gaz to the punch with a proxy WOS vote for ASWTDID? IIRC, he hates it because Henley rhymes a word with itself.

WOS from me. I never thought Don was as clever as he did.
-
VHM JCM -- didn't we hear this in a very recent '85 set? Appropriate for the holiday, tho.

nay, nay. it's an instrumental.

WOW! OMG! BOS to "Like to Get to Know You Well," one of my faves from HoJo. He really did some great stuff for a few years.
-
BOS HoJo -- closest we'll get to a rarity today, I'll wager.

That's part of it too. :x

TOTHK - "Perfect Way"
Time was, this was almost as big a Katrina as Katrina herself. But Dave has since relegated Scritti Politti to once-a-year status. I distinctly remember during the original debate over the terminology back on the old Yahoo! boards that we'd heard this in 4 out of 5 sets at one point circa 2001. We still got it 3 times in 2005, but this is only the 2nd time since.

"Like to get to know you.... WELL???"
Agreed, a small but delightful body of work.
-
FWIW, I don't remember how it tasted, but I remember that I didn't dislike New Coke. Then again, I liked Crystal Pepsi, Joost, OK, and several other failed colas . . .

WOS2 to "Back in Time," the sound of a band fresh out of ideas.

i don't remember anything new about except the label.
-

Rarer than you think.
Not only a bustout, but Dave never plays HoJo. My Db only has one HoJo entry: "The Prisoner" from 1/13/04.

everbody wanted to be a loggins hit machine back then.
-
"a new explosion of wonderfulness in your mouth." Er... and that's followed by the nototiously endowed Mr Lewis -- coincidence? Kudos for "Back in Time" istead of "POL", tho'.
-
I keep humming "The Belle of St. Mark" every time I read your .sig quote. [directed at POC, natch]

NewCoke tasted like pepsi -- that was the point. A stupid idea -- whether it was sincere or a deliberate con, we'll never know.

i'm sure dylan would like that.

BOS3 to "Endicott," first time my ass has moved this set.
-
WOO HOO and BOS2 for the return (after a lengthy absence) of "Endicott".
-
BOS3 to "Endicott," first time my ass has moved this set.

"Fo' sho'!"
-
BOS3 to "Endicott," first time my ass has moved this set.
well, BOS#3 for me, my ass was moving on the Scritti Politti, and this is a Dave Fave, not the bustout that HoJo was.
-
bos#3: george michael! i mean, uh, wham!
-
Wow -- BOS3 "Careless Whisper"! This is turning out to be the best '85 set in a while. Most enjoyable.
-
bos#3: george michael! i mean, uh, wham!
and is that deon estus on bass?
-
BOS4 to "Careless Whisper," and it's NOT a guilty pleasure. I was absolutely ga-ga for this song when it came out. Even more so with "Freedom."
-
"Careless Whisper" has an interesting 10@10history, having been played by Dave in 4 different types of sets, once each over the past 4 years...
...once in a 1984 set, once in a 1985 set, once in a VT as the 1985 entry, and once in a Hits From Hell set (another of which we're due for next Fri).

Why, heaven help me, it is!

Mr. Adams: Tom Petty's on Line One. He sounds pissed.

double ditto -- andI don't think dave's ever played it.
Mr Adams -- feh. Gaz's comment is right on.
-
bryan adams didn't ruin my fun with you guys. i'm off to health school for nine days. no meat, no drink, no smoke. just....yoga, or something. i hope i don't come back smelling like patchouli.
-
Hey, we're back to having tie BOS's ona regular basis -- so what will Big Rick do this afternoon? do "Fogheads choose" or does he play both?
-
My work here is done.
Dave sez it's a tie between Kid Creole, my BOS #3, & Howard Jones, my BOS #2. Good thing I voted for HoJo 3 different ways!

Wow, four pages of posts on this one and it's not even noon. That speaks volumes about this set. Helps that we had the best attendance in ages--both Gaz and POC, and Mike's back from vacay and typing copiously. but a good set nonetheless.
Have fun at the health farm, Princess. Take a good book with you that's not the Bhagavad gita. Maybe the Kama sutra?

Methinks the princess is already tres familiar with that book...
As to the posts, this will surely be our high-water-mark for the week, since we'll have Morey Classics the rest of the time.

It's like Dave ran a poll among the year's musicians: What do you want to do today?
(a) rule the world
(b) dance
(c) get to know you well
(d) run to you
I vote (a) as a Roland Orzabal proxy.
