-
robert should never ever ever ever ever be allowed to be in the brthday club ever ever ever ever ever again.
-
One of those birthday people is my twin, turning 42 on Sunday. Wonder if he was born at Mills Hospital like I was.
-
Can't get stream. aaarrrch. What's playing?
-
Happy Pre-Birthday, MShray!
VHM to "Mama's Pearl," a conveyor-belt sound-alike but still fun.
-
Yay! BOS "Mama's Pearl", one of the underplayed J-5 hits. But who in God's name would ask for "American Pie", one of the most overplayed oldies ever? Guess he doesn't listen to KFRC.

Obviously Dave doesn't have weekend plans, if he's playing "American Pie" all the way through on a Friday.

that's robert. he's at the top of my hitlist for today. i don't care if it's his birthday.
"i hate madonna!"

I wonder what Dave will make of my "long version" request for Monday. I listed the following songs, and as luck would have it none of these years has come up in the past 18 days.
1970 Grand Funk "Closer To Home"
1972 Cashman & West "American City Suite"
1975 The Outlaws "Green Grass & High Tides"
1977 Television "Marquee Moon"
1982 Dire Straits "Telegraph Road"
I said the Television would be my first pick if I were allowed to choose.

yeah, but you gotta admit that it makes a helluva story. I just loved the way you told it to me the first time.
That & the Joe Piscopo story.

18 days? the rotation is usually more like to 4-6 weeks. But it's been at least a month since we hit any of those. I'm betting on Cashman & West.
-
"And the two men I admire most -- Anson Williams and Donny Most ..."
that's Donny MOST. But it's funny anyway.
VHM Spinners!

VVHM to the Spinners. "WidYOOOO ..."

Some years ago I saw a stand-up comedian on TV sing "Fire" (Brooce/Pointers) in full Elmer Fudd voice. Hilarious as all get-out.
-
uh-oh, "Spiders & Snakes".
I will say this for Dave -- our last VT was all-'70s too, wasn't it? And that's a GOOD thing, as the newly free Ms. Stewart would say.
-

Spiders and Snakes.

yeah. i like it, too. but i can't stand the girl. "it's a frog, b**ch!!!"
-

It won't happen, but I truly wish that we don't hear Spiders & Snakes again until after we hear Mr. Stafford's "Wildwood Weed" 3 or 4 times.

For my bday a few years back, I was the recipient of a 70's VT. Have it on tape.

martha's free? hallelujah!
when's she coming over...that's what i want to know.
i hear she likes the ladies. but "i ain't one to gossip, so you didn't hear that from me."
hmm...unintentional callback to yesterday's joni quote.

Well, y'know, that whole kiss-a-frog-that-turns-into-a-prince thing is a total metaphor for oral sex.

I saw that too (obviously).
This ELO song sounds a little bit Fudd-ish, but lacks the repetitive 'r' & 'l' phonemes to really be candidate.

Dave's played WW a couple times. But I don't think he's ever played "My Girl Bill" or "I Got Stoned and I Missed It."

it's been some years since WW made an appearance. I remember him playing it -- it seemed to go on for an eternity (it wasn't a good as I'd remembered it) and Dave made a comment to that effect at the end of the set. We haven't heard it since.

Bwinded by the Wight!

i read that as you got stoned and missed it. :) i think he's played "my girl bill," but i could be imagining it.
"bwinded by da wight"

Any momentum this set once had has been lost. Thank you, Gary Wright and Manfred Mann. ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz........

I was gonna say that too, but hesitated. Which also ended my string on having the first post on the top of the page after the first 3.

Was Don's "uh-oh" Dave's commentary on the BGs?
-
enuf alweddy. I'm bwind but not deaf.
ooooohhhhh
Night fevuh.
-
Was Don's "uh-oh" Dave's commentary on the BGs?
I took it as uh-oh, here comes the disco.
but following that with Sultans Of Swing sure works for me.
-
Was Don's "uh-oh" Dave's commentary on the BGs?
I think it was Dave's commentary on the reaction of certain Fogheads to the BeeGees (even after all these years, there's a "disco sucks" faction who give Dave grief).

well, the ending sounds good the second time around, too!

Second time awound
-
It's a Shalamar Breakout! BOS on principle!
-
My freshman roommate took a stained-glass course and then built a custom stereo rack with a stained glass turntable cover. Unfortunately he built it such that the cover came down at an angle that prevented the tone-arm from returning all the way to the resting position and in fact it would get stuck exactly at the outside edge of the LP. The upshot of all this was that if one were recording an album and left the room, it would effectively be in continuous play mode.
So on my cassette of this album, "Sultans Of Swing" being Track 1, Side 2, there is a reprise of the song at the end. And as circumstance would further have it, the tape runs out exactly when Knopfler says "Good night".
-
ha, back on top again.

BOS3 4 me! Is this a breakout? Not one Dave plays too often, that's 4 sure. What's the name of this lead singer?
