listended on the way in to school today; they seemed pretty devastated at the station. Amazing how quickly she succumbed once they found out it was cancer.

That was what struck me--less than two weeks since she was diagnosed. It must have been pretty far along.
Ironically, the Squeals page (the station's message board) is down right now (or maybe the volume of traffic in the wake of Laura Ellen's passing took it down).

Did a lot of listening on the way home, and while waiting for the dentist, and heard lots of great stuff. Ziggy and the Chieftans doing "Redemption Song," and lots of other great things. I wasn't consciously aware of Laura, but now that I find out how important she was to the station, and how important KPIG has become to me, it really does seem like a big loss.

She was the weekday midday person, in addition to being PD, but since I didn't have access to KPIG at Blue Shield, I only heard her very occasionally. Really scary that a "persistent cough" (her only symptom, apparently) could turn out to be lung cancer that had already spread to her liver by the time she saw a doctor. Jeez.

The Chronicle finally catches up with this story -- only a week late.
