Title: 23 May 2007--it's 1992
Post by: urth on May 23, 2007, 10:02:30 AM
Not too distant past, Dave sez.

'Mats lead off, although this is their swansong--wait, they were done by '92. This must be Westerberg.

solo Westerberg from the Singles sndtrk, a good way to start.

"Do I date you , do I hate you, do I got a dyslexic heart?"

can Dave keep this up?  "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight" makes two BOS candidates to lead of a set that I'm sure none of us had our hopes up for.

Comin in, try to jamaica--could never understand this lyric for years. Typical Stipe.

BOS REM and some Nescafe & ice, but I have no illusions about a '92 set.

Interesting that Dave's '92 follows Ginger's '91 and The Peak did '90 this morning.

Almost.  I believe it's, "Call me when you try to wake her up", eh wot?

Well, U2's "One" is certainly a BOS candidate, but I'd rather be hearing the Mary J Blige version.

See, that's the thing about Stipe lyrics--no two people hear them the same. My current translation of that phonetic garble is "comin' in, tryin' to wake her up."

Four songs in, and so far nothing that's made me go "not this again."

a mosquito, my libido.  Well, if I were married to Courtney, my libido would be pretty small too.

half a vote for a song that's "legal" in both '91 & '92.

Only because Dave's played it often, but it's still a great clip -- notice how Bush TOTALLY dodged the issue of gun control (which is what the question was about).

uh-oh, here's Dolby -- your presumptive BOS.

True, but still a lovely song, and a Narada for me anyway.

I'd put Nirvana in that category too, and really, we haven't heard anything we haven't heard multiple times in this year. My kingdom for a bustout!

I really like it too.  It's from "Astronauts and Heretics", which I have and enjoy.

from the dept. of What If...?

...imagine if Ross Perot had the looks of John Kerry in '92, or if John Kerry had the attitude of Ross Perot in 2004.

well stated, sir.

I emailed Dave with the traditional "whatever happened to your promise to play "I Wanna Sex U Up" occasionally?" message.

nice speech from George HW Bush.  What I would have given if his son's team had been as committed to a smooth a transition in 2000.  By most accounts it was one of the worst in history.

HM for Hotel Illness.  Not too overplayed, I think.  I was thinking of the Crowes earlier in the "misheard lyrics" portion of our program, but it was for "Hard to Handle".

WTF!?  Since when is Dave allowed to play "Breaking the Girl" without the Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill newsclip?

4. REM - The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight
5. Tom Cochran - Life is a Highway

Two repeats, three if you count the bonus track, and a different Black Crowes tune.

yup, won't matter one bit if it's Giulianni or McCain either.  W may not go down in history as the worst president ever, but without question he's the worst to serve two full terms.
