Spot the Vinyl today....
Damn, when he said Styx, I had this singing feeling....
This is what cocaine can do to a band. (See also: Kilroy Was Here)
[[ETA: that shouild have been sinking feeling...]]
-
Now this is more like it, albeit sort of a beginning-of-the-week katrina:
The Jam, Monday.
-
I'm here with ya, just not excited about what I'm hearing yet.

I know what you mean. This ELO tune has me snoozin' again. Everybody parlez francais!
(Wonder if Dave Edmunds had anything to do with this? Kind of has his vibe to it.)
And now we're still parlez-ing, this time with Le Police--Hungry for You.
-
Now this is more Alicat's speed--although my lack of familiarity with dance tunes is showing. I know we've heard this lots, can't tell you the title to save my soul.
"Just tell the DJ to play your favorite tune..."
ETA: Did a little quick research: it's EWF, Let's Groove.
-
Now a little heard track from Abacab, Another Record.
"Put another record on..."
Yes, that's what we're all hoping for.
Still no sign of the vinyl that I've been able to detect.
-
Franke and the Knockouts, Sweetheart, followed by Pat Benatar's Promises in the Dark. This could be the vinyl.
-
Heard Bette Midler's Best Song Oscar presentation bit (which I still find pretty damn funny) but didn't get Chris Cross following--the Cars' Shake It Up instead.
-
Not recognizing this one--a very funky piece, somehting about taking a Fantasic Voyage. Lakeside? I've heard that name mentioned twice now.
-

Likewise, I was in the car &heard the whole set, but the only thing I could muster up a desire to vote for was the Divine Miss M. The only thing I'd have given a VHM to was the evenual BOS winner, the nearly divine Miss B. and maybe Lakeside.

All in all, a good day to be in the car or in a meeting.

Holy shit, Dave's discovering '80s R&B! Second breakout in that category in a week, after Switch last week. Def woulda been my BOS, especially considering the pedestrian nature of the rest of the set.

On the other hand, although 1981 is far from my favorite year, I remember it very well as it was Freshman into Sophomore year of college, and if nothing else I found today's set remarkably accurate as a time capsule. I didn't love all of it then or now, but this was definitely what the kids in my dorm were cranking on their stereos, even the Lakeside.
