Jeez, I think Judge is playin' the whole damn Commodores Live album--it had been on for awhile when Mike first posted about it, and it's still goin' on at 1:20. They just kicked into Brick House, so I'm thinkin' they must be hitting the end of the show.

It did indeed go on forever, and I didn't actually hear Judge say anything "live", so I wonder if he was actually there. The KPOO stream fell apart around 2:30 and I switched to WLNG.

I'm 'CDX-ing for the next couple of hours if anyone's interested. EJ's growin' some funk of his own. "Ooo! he was so MACHO!" Calm down, Elton.
-
Damn! Todd, "You Cried Wolf" -- I don't think even Dave has played this.
-
Another forgotten LRB hit: "Man on Your Mind"
-
Alice C's got you "Under My Wheels" -- would that Detroit Dave would play this or "Be My Lover" some morning.

I just finished reading a galley of his autobio, "12 Steps to Becoming a Golf Addict." Nothing terribly juicy, but reasonably well told and he seems like a good guy. Peter Sellers and Groucho Marx became close friends of his in the '70s.

he's a big GOP fundraiser, no?

Just switched to WLNG in time for Lynn Anderson's glorious "Rose Garden".

I didn't know that, and he doesn't touch on politics at all in the book. He did, however, talk at length about his embracing of Christianity (and shilled for a golf club manufacturer way too much).

That title is quite apt--he's been a huge golf nut since the 70s also, long before he got sober. Didn't know he was tight with Sellers or Groucho tho.
Trivia (and I'm recusing Gaz on this since he just read the bio): What's Alice's given name?

Listening to the Technicolor Web of Sound this afternoon while reading copy. New to me: A Fever Tree medley of "Day Tripper" and "We Can Work It Out," sounding thoroughly Vanilla-Fudged-out.
-
'lec-tric-lee they keep a baseball score: WLNG plays "The Beat Goes On". And indeed it does.
The other night Little Steven played Sonny's lone solo hit, the unjustly forgotten "Laugh at Me'.
-
'LNG Nugget o'the Day: The Bell Notes' 1959 orig of "I've Had It", covered memorably in the '70s by Fanny, whose rockin' version is on my all-time shoulda-been-a-huge-hit list.
-
And closing out my afternoon so tastefully: Mercy, "Love (Can Make You Happy)". Mercy indeed!
-
The other night Little Steven played Sonny's lone solo hit, the unjustly forgotten "Laugh at Me'.
Since covered by, among others, Mott the Hoople and/or Ian Hunter (he did it at his Fillmore gig a couple months back), the Groovie Ghoulies, and the Skeletons, the best band ever to come out of Springfield Missouri.
And yeah, it's a great great song.

I thought I was the only one who remembered that Mott covered that. Been ages since I've heard their version.

Also covered by Evan Dando!
PS: Sonny also charted #70 with "The Revolution Kind," his awkward attempt at a centrist balancing act.

CG's running ads for "California Dreaming" a compilation CD featuring "the best groups and singer/songwriters to come out of Calif". A great idea for an album (there was actually a radio station in Santa Monica that had an all-Cali format in the late '80s), but the commercial features Carly Simon's "You're So Vain"... and she's a NYC girl. Oops.
-
CG highlight: Andy Fairweather Low's "Wide-eyed and Legless".
and it's followed by Sir Bob & the boys, "Rat Trap".
-
new to me: the Fortunes' "Storm in a Teacup", from '72.
and a major treat: 10CC's "I'm Mandy, Fly Me". Just like the girl... in Doctor No, no no no...

Oddly, KFOG played that Rod Stewart cover of "Twistin'..." about 10 mins before KaBoom started, and I remember thinking it was one they never play, I don't think it even shows up in A-to-Z.
I cannot remember the last time I heard that Eagles song.
-
gonna have to pack up for the day, but since the music logs are running a couple songs ahead I just had to stick around for Steve Goodman's ode to tow-truck drivers "Lincoln Park Pirates". Woot!
...from Edsel to Chevy, there's no car too heavy...
-
CG plays a Gene Pitney obscurity, "Backstage" one of his mid-'60s hits that didn't do too well here but was Top Ten in the UK, where he was beloved.
And it's followed by Midge Ure's absolutely wonderful "If I Was".
-
Fab CG find: Harry J Allstars, "Liquidator", a reggae instrumental from 1969 that begins with the same exact intro as The Staples' "I'll take You There", which came out 2 years later. Guess somebody did some "borrowing".
-
OMFG! The English Congregation, "Softly Whispering I Love You".
Followed by an even bigger OMG, the New Seekers' cover of Delaney & Bonnie's "Never-Ending Song of Love". New to me.
-
holy flaming mother of god! Georgie Fame covering Billy Stewart's "Sitting in the Park". CG has been mind-blowing today.
-
"See, if I was in your blood, then you wouldn't be so UGLY!"
CGSS highlight, Kid Creole "Annie I'm Not Your Daddy". Onna onna onna-motta-pee-a!

-
WLNG Nugget o'the Day: Joe South, "Walk a Mile in My Shoes". Haven't heard this in decades.
-
and kudos to 'LNG for playing the "dirty" version ("one HELL of a man") of "Big Bad John".
-
Little Steven is celebrating Dylan's b-day, and we get a repeat of Manfred Mann from Friday. Yay!
