Just like in Chicago.
Lead off with Mick 'n Keef et al, Dance (at least that's what my minimally active brain cells are telling me it's called).
-
And for those of us who missed hearing Rockpile in Friday's '79 set, here they are today, Teacher, Teacher.
Hmmm, when was the last time we had consecutive years on consecutive days? Mark?

Disco Stones... woo hoo!!

Hmmm, interesting question. I'll have to think how to sort my data in a way that would allow me to answer that question. First of all I need to spend a couple of hours adding in the last 6 months of setlists, which will bring me up to 3 full consecutive years.
BOS PG, I always found this song to be scary, but in a good way.
-
Ah, but the first BOS is reserved for tune #3, Peter Gabriel's I Don't Remember from his breakthrough third album. Love the pulsing Chapman Stick line on this.
-
have to hear the rest of the set in my automobile, driving to a meeting.
Ciao!

Hell, most of this album is pretty scary, from the paranoia of Intruder, to the assassin in Family Snapshot, to No Self Control--it's a pretty twisted album in general. Games Without Frontiers is one of the more wholesome songs on there.

BOS2 for Althea. Always liked the groove on this one.

Ditto from me. I was just now thinking while I'm listening, how the Grateful Dead often seems so "timeless" in that their songs don't seem tied to a specific year or era. Hmmmmm...

Izzis U2???
ETA: Gotta be. Never heard it before, as far as I know. Kinda reminds me of James.

Yep, absolutely.
But I have no clue who this R&B tune is. Can't even make a guess. It's sung from a male point of view, but whoever's singing has a pretty damn high voice. And it's not MJ.

El Debarge. Googled it. I was thinking MJ at first -- almost lost my breakfast when he said he "used to think immature thoughts" or something like that.

Thanks for sussing that out. I bet Mike will be bummed at missing this. I'm almost positive this would be a bustout.

Oops. Guess Google has failed me, and I failed you. I blame myself! Switch, eh?
ETA: But...
Switch were:
Bobby DeBarge (vocals) d. 16th August, 1995, from A.I.D.S.
Tommy DeBarge (vocals)
Eddie Fluellan (keyboards / trombone / vocals)
Renard Gallo (percussion / vocals)
Attala Zane Giles (keyboards)
Phillip Ingram (vocals)
Greg Williams (keyboards / vocals)
Jody Sims (drums)
Gonzales Ozen (percussion / vocals)
and Gregory Williams (keyboards / vocals)
Switch were another Ohio funk band, who began as First Class in 1975...
-
And the Foghead gets the right bonus track today, ZZTop's I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide.
They smokin' Lucky Strikes and wearin' nylons, too...
Now that's gotta be some classy dames...

OMFG Dave played Switch?!? major bustout, and a fine choice. The DeBarge boys all sound the same to me, tho.

05/14/2007 - Monday. The year is...1980!!
1. Rolling Stones - Dance Pt. 1
2. Rockpile - Teacher Teacher
3. Peter Gabriel - Start/I Don't Remember
4. Prince - Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?
5. Grateful Dead - Althea
6. Clash - London Calling
7. U2 - Out of Control (BEST OF SET!!)
8. Switch - I Call Your Name
9. Gary Numan - Cars
10. Bruce Springsteen - Hungry Heart
BONUS TRACK: ZZ Top - I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide
Dang me, I got out of the car in the middle of the U2 tune & missed the Bustout!
Gary Numan is a real sledgehammer for me in a 1980 set, tied to some very specific memories of the spring of my senior year in HS. Wish Dave & the rest would play some other tunes by him (I think Rob does, but I so seldom get to hear his sets)

I'm looking forward to 10pm -- Prince AND Switch in the same set is pretty impressive for the often '80s R&B-impaired Dave. Nobody was around at the end to say "VHM Flo & Eddie on backing vox" -- LOL!

digging the replay: This must be a Katrina mathematically, but is so tasty to hear. Nobody plays this on the radio, it just seems to be a Dave Fave. This is a song the real Deadheads love, and not one of the usual suspects.
Snap, Crackle, and Pop!

Just to be contrary: I don't think "timeless" is quite the right word. All their stuff -- even the '80s tunes -- evokes tie-dyed '70s for me. (Translation: it's all quite similar to the non-Deadhead. :-) )
