This topic came up around 7:30 this morning & after quite a lot of songs being mentioned just between the Mornig Show staff, Dave said, "We've done a set of those songs on 10@10 before, but not for a long while. Maybe we should take suggestions from the Fogheads and do another one...next week sometime."
So if you want to make suggestions for this set for next week, email Dave.
I'm going to suggest that Kaiser Chiefs song that was used in all the iPod ads.

"Da Da Da" would seem a lock.
"Vertigo," except Dave would never play it in this context because that would almost be criticizing U2.
For a long time, "Good Vibrations" was to me "the Sunkist song," but I've gotten over that. And Sasson says so much, but I doubt Dave'd go that far back.

Indeed. Renee went so far as to suggest a whole set just of VW commercial music!

Thought crossed my mind too--Nick Drake, Richard Buckner, et al.

put 'em on, put 'em on...
I suspect "Stacy's Mom" may make an appearance too.
Didya know Adam Schlesinger is writing songs for the next B'way-musical-based-on-a-John Waters-film? (that would be Cry Baby)

And was the Polyphonic Spree in an Apple ad, or was that Volkswagen too?

No I didn't. But I am not at all surprised.

He also wrote the songs for the recent Hugh Grant/Drew Barrymore rom-com, Music & Lyrics. Didn't see it, but apparently he came up with some clever '80s Pop send-ups (Wham and the like).

I would say that annoying John Mellencamp song "My Country" or whatever the hell the title is. I hear it on KFOG or on TV, I turn it the station/channel.

I'll be interested to see if Dave includes that one -- Fogheads seem to love it or hate it. I was originally very annoyed by it , but then I'm from a generation that believed letting your song be used in a commercial was some kind of "sellout". But I saw an interview with JCM and he was pretty eloquent about his reasons for letting it be used (options for an artist his age, in terms of getiing a song heard, are limited; it's still his song and he knows what it's really about even if the masses misinterpret it, etc). Separate it from the TV spots, and it's your basic JCM populist anthem. Examine the lyrics and it's not the mindless jingoistic rant a lot of people seem to think it is.
