KPOO's Judge is doing a lengthy (and SSSSMOKIN') tribute to the Isleys.
-
He's been spotlighting a different artist for about an hour nearly every week---a couple weeks ago was Al Green, and we got Isaac Hayes like three weeks running a month or two ago.

OHJEEEZUS! It's the Isleys covering Todd Rundgren's Hello, It's Me. Took me a sec to realize what it was.
Too bad the record is so scratchy.

ooo! it's ithe Isleys' fab. yoo. luss. smooth'n'slow cover of "Hello It's Me".

Just occurred to me: Wasn't there some FCC regulation limiting the number of songs by a single artist that a station could broadcast over the web in a given time period, like two or three in a couple of hours? I think Judge is over the limit, if it's still in effect. But I like it.

Indeed -- that's still in effect, afaik (which is why we don't get The Drive on Thursdays when they do a Single Artist Spotlight). Right on, Judge -- don't kowtow to The Man!

another inspired Isleys cover: JT's "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight".
-
WLNG Nugget o'the day: Jan & Dean's "Linda", as shameless a 4 Seasons ripoff as there has ever been.
-
no more up-up-tight time, Neil thanks da lawd fo' the nighttime.
-
enjoying KPIG this morning -- Randy Newman, "Big Hat, No Cattle".
-
occasionally KCDX plays the odd Country hit; today it's Collin Raye - "My Kind Of Girl", one heck of a Glenn Frye imitation.
-
Andy Pratt's fab "Avenging Annie", one for Gaz's gender-bender list.
-
KCDX Nugget: Sweathog, "Hallelujah".
(no, not those Sewathogs...)

I'm listening to LoneStar today, at least for a while, and the Stones' little-heard "Country Honk" has made my morning.
-
a ZZ Top song I've never heard before: "Mexican Blackbird".
-
Turns out this Edgar Winter version of "Rock'n'Roll Hootchie Koo" I mentioned last week is new -- it also features Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Les Paul (!) and is from a CD called Les Paul & Friends. Sounds like something KFOG should be eating up with a spoon.
-
Over to WLNG for the Jaynettes' fab "Sally Go 'Round the Roses", a record WAY ahead of its time in 1963.
-
FYI, today's CG Rock Show features the 2 other guys from The Jam, who have re-formed the band without Paul Weller. Well, good luck with that, chaps.
-
Hoo Lawd! CGSS plays Bobby W, goin' Across 110th St.

Damn, Sweeney's playing tons of Jam tunes. I'm in New Wave heaven. Succumb-ah to the Beat Surrender!

DAY-um! KPOO's JJ kickin' ass & takin' names as usual: Etta James' cover of "You Can Leave Your Hat On", new to me and killer (Joe Cocker, eat yer heart out). And it's followed by Sly's "I Get High on You", which you NEVER hear, even Dave's never played it, and we know he lurves him some Sly.
And now Johnny "Guitar" Watson, "Ain't That a Bitch"! Um, yes.
