Title: 30 April 2007: a "classic" from... 1975
Post by: RGMike on April 30, 2007, 09:03:31 AM
Dave's still on vacay -- he's back Wednesday.

'75 is the year of the day -- This will have to be good to top the Peak's set earlier.  And The Drive's doing '75 tomo'w.

Nice Nice, very Katrinish.

But I'm back today!

Last Wed, when I had to miss the set to take a conference call, the upshot of said call was that I had to book a flight to Atlanta immediately & spend Thurs-Sun at a conference there.  Hence my sudden absence from these boards.

the business development part went very well, but the best part was that I stayed all three nights at my friend Ian's house, Ian being my freshman roommate who moved east in 1990.  Although we have kept in touch, we hadn't actually seen each other in 17 years.  So that was wonderful.

Weird - I was singing this this morning.  Just ask my wife!  I remember why...I was putting on my monster ankle brace in my family room and happened to notice my Ambrosia LP!

Huh?  By the way, I never understood if this song was actually about some man saying something, or just one of his many catchy pop songs...  Any ideas?

I got to drive over to a 10:30 meeting myself, catch y'all later.

Oooh, BOS Bobby Z.  A song & album that Dave surprisingly visits only rarely.

One of my faves too.  The lyrics still sound brilliant.

Followed quickly by BOS4--wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims, baby!

I'm gonna be wishing I could hear this set again tonight, but it's Night One of the post-Coachella Music Glut--Fountains of Wayne at the Music Hall. Tomorrow's off, then I have Travis Wednesday and the Old 97s on Thursday, both Fillmo' gigs.

Actually this may be in my archive already--it's in the Shraytabase, it was a classic that aired on June 5, 02, and it's sounding more and more familiar all the time.

VHM to Sir Monti Rock for novelty's sake but can't pull the trigger on BOS for the Disco-Tex or the Sex-o-lettes.

I actually think it's a dreadful record. Cultural significance, yes, but really badly made.  But I'll BOS ELO. "Poker? I hardly know'er!"

and now OMD, from the LP "Past Tense" (Gaz woulda been disappointed had I not said that for the umpteenth time).

I love hearing the "bomp-bomp-bomp-bomp"s going back'n'forth from left to right in the headphones.

Nobody mentioned Journey-when-they-were-good!

from Bruce to Disco Tex -- that's a hetero-to-homo segue that's positively whiplash-inducing!
