"Today will be a challenge" Dave was saying earlier during the morning show.

Hope he rises to the challenge.

And hope this will be the last volume and he goes out on a high note. And no more "cheats" like Jim Carroll.

Yay!  My 10:00 meeting just got postponed to 11:00.

Listened to the replay last night while driving back from Livermore, and while I missed Monday's set, I still think yesterday's set was pretty damn good.

After Huey, I think Green Day are the next biggest artist not yet to have been played.

What else can we expect, given that it's based on Foghead emails?

Is Michael McDonald doing all the vocals on this?  They all sound like him.

Either way, I like fake jazz Doobies.  (Oops, wrote Boobies, but then deleted it.)

BOS #1 - "Living on the Faultline", which answers my question, obviously it's the Doobies.

Don't forget Journey. Whether we hear JWTWG or JWTS remains.

And here's the Doobies (but not when they were good). Hope Dave took note of that list of hopefuls Gaz posted yessterday.

I'd say Chris Isaak is due too, clearly he's a Foghead fave.  Hoping for the (early) Pointers, expecting Green Day.

Ah, and here's Eddy to go along with Huey.

AMG turns up a song called Sing Me a Rainbow by the Sons of Champlin and another with the same title by Dr. Hook and the Medicine show (penned by Shel Silverstein) but I don't think that was either of them.

I remember 10 years ago or so, KFOG made up a list (in order) of the greatest Rock and Roll songs of all time (listeners choices), and this was third...  Not sure why I remember that, but I remember that I agreed at the time...

Looked back at yesterday's list--there were four clinkers in there, IMO--the Counting Crows song, the Smashmouth, the Jim Carroll (which really stretched the rules), and the Jefferson Starship (a really weak selection given the other songs we could have heard from their catalog).  Today's set has been much higher quality overall.

The Motels are even less of a Bay area band than Jim Carroll--they're from LA!

Oh, and it sprung to mind that we haven't heard anything from Boz Scaggs yet either. I'd take Runnin' Blue as my first choice, but anything from Slow Dancer or earlier would be just fine.

OK, per AMG:

Quote
Davis formed the group in 1972 while living in Berkeley, CA, recruiting guitarist Dean Chamberlain and bassist Richard D'Andrea; originally dubbed the Warfield Foxes, they became the Motels upon relocating to L.A., but despite interest from a number of record labels the group suffered through endless lineup changes, finally disbanding in 1976. Davis soon formed a new Motels roster with guitarist Jeff Jourard, his saxophonist/keyboardist brother Marty, bassist Michael Goodroe, and drummer Brian Glascock...

Although it was just the bonus track, this is an even further stretch than Jim Carroll.

Also, the Sons of Champlin tune was a 1967 single that was came out on Verve, several years before the Capitol releases they're better known for.

Was it a good tune?  Did anyone who is familiar with the Sons hear this?    You have to admit this seems to be a deeper archival piece than almost anything I can remember on KFOG.

Yes, it was good, but it didn't sound like anything close to the sound they had later on. It was pretty poppy, actually. I think you're probably the one most familiar with the Sons around here--Mike, how much background do you have with them? I remember a little bit, but mostly post-Capitol.

The big hits for me (Get High, Freedom) from the first album are real long, which is why perhaps they weren't played.
