Title: 22 March 2007 -- 1987 or 1988 (and '87 it is)
Post by: mshray on March 22, 2007, 09:59:00 AM
I bet we get the 80's again after yesterday's '76 set and these two years are most overdue.

ETA: 1987 it is.  What's the over on egregious Katrina's today? 4? 5?

I'll say 6 or 7 -- we're only two songs in and both qualify.

Didn't we get the Squeeze tune in Ginger's 87 set yesterday, too? She and Dave have been leapfrogging one another for a week or so now.

Oh by the way--Mark, today's the 22nd.

Yeah, kinda like finding out the other team's best defender is a late scratch, the over goes way up.

Not to mention the second repeat from Ginger's set of yesterday. That does not bode well, considering we've heard only three songs so far.

Yikes almighty. Hell in a Bucket indeed.  And now U2, most of Joshua Tree are Katrinas (or Katrina-ish).

But OMG -- Dave's finally making good on his promise to play the full "Harper Valley PTA" parody.  Well, almost.

Not the same song, but hearing another song from Gilmour's solo-album-in-the-guise-of-Pink-Floyd is a little to close for me. George Harrison next?

Well, she didn't play Crowded House, but for those scoring at home, here's Ginger's set from yesterday:

Tom Petty/Jammin' Me
U2/Spanish Eyes (b-side to "I Still Haven't Found What I"m Looking for")
(clip from movie "Broadcast News")
Squeeze/Hourglass
Steve Winwood/Back in the High Life
Bodeans/Only Love
Ten Thousand Maniacs/Peace Train
(clip from movie "Throw Momma from the Train")
Pink Floyd/One Slip
XTC/Dear God
Joe Satriani/Always with Me, Always with You
(news clip of Oliver North & Fawn Hall)
Grateful Dead/Hell in a Bucket

(Btw, Princess, LOVE the new avatar. Is that Jennifer Aniston, or just an incredible lookalike?)

This Floyd LP never did much for me.

Holy Flaming Mother of God -- Dave follows the "something completely different" clip with "Don't Dream it's Over" Oh, the irony.

BOS Priince, but this has officially become the only cut from this LP we ever hear.

I liked it (and generally like Gilmour's solo stuff too)

Agree on the irony comment, was thinking the same thing, although at least he didn't put that in front of "C'est la Vie".

BOS #2 for Prince

At least he's playing *something* from this album, and we all know his proclivity for finding fave tracks and rarely deviating, so this should not be a shock.

I won't belabor the point, but this Clapton track is maintaining the entire vibe of the set. 'Nuff said.

Here's the only thing I'm likely to even consider voting BOS--Bourgeois Tagg's I Don't Mind At All. I should try to find a copy of this album--Rundgren produced it, as I recall it's got some other good songs on it. (Right afterward, Todd hired most of the band away from Brent Bourgeois (Larry Tagg, Lyle Workman, and Mike Urbano all appear on Todd's Nearly Human and toured thereafter) and that was it for Bourgeois Tagg.)

I'm still voting BOS for Love & Rockets after all these years.

Dave's played it a few times -- in fact, iirc he's played it in the wrong year once or twice.  Great single, actually hit the top 40.  I have the 45.

Did she really say that? If she did, it's the closest I've ever heard her refer to her preference on air.

Actually, upon further review, I'd BOS Pink Floyd or U2.
