dedicated to Jr. Parker, BOS#1 the Reverend Al.

I wonder, how much cheese are we gonna get today?  1974 was pretty much the highwater mark for Top 40 cheese.

Jim Stafford? Dickie Goodman? Ray Stevens? Could be any, probably not all.

So glad we're hearing this today--I got a follow-up dentist appt tomorrow morning, so will miss all of 'BCO and probably half of the KFOG set.

ETA: and when was the last time we heard Beach Baby? I'd be into that.

well neither "Another Park, Another Sunday", nor "Overnight Sensation" are cheese, but they certainly are tasty, especially back-to-back like this.

Definitely standard Morey fare, but some of the best.  Can't miss with the Reverend Al.

Doobies trivia, what was the name of the band that vocalist Tom Johnston and drummer John Hartman started in the late 60's? (if you're not slicing it too fine you could say this was the band's original name).

Pretty good start so far--the Rev, the Doobies (Another Park Another Sunday) and now the Raspberries (Overnight Sensation).

And Dave's YIM logon status is hinting (well, coming right out and saying) he's going to play a real '74 rarity. I won't bust the secret, but I hope Mike's meeting is short or he's gonna be pissed. Guessing it'll be in the SH6 slot.

BOS3 Zappa, I'm the Slime, while I'm at it.

Yet another BOS candidate, Joni's Down to You. This is turning into a pretty great set, although no bustouts yet.

Yet.

Here 'tis: the Hudson Brothers Beatles homage, So You Are a Star.

Saw Bill Hudson a few weeks ago on an E! special about Goldie Hawn and their daughter Kate Hudson. He didn't look bad, but he sure doesn't look like he did 30 years ago. But then, neither do I.

indeed, and I don't remember realizing that at the time -- this was a Top 40 hit and I heard it repeatedly on Casey Kasem's Countdown.  But it's up there with Emmit Rhodes and others of that ilk.

But only brief cheese (there's a condition you don't wanna have), followed tastily by NRBQ.

Jerry Reed's "Lord, Mister Ford" would go nicely after "Get That Gasoline", but 2 bustouts in one set would be too much to ask for.

Is there more than one version of this NRBQ song, BTW? I remember a much faster take on it for some reason.

Y'know, I'm not sure, but I vaguely recall hearing a more upbeat take on it, too. I'll ask around, get back to you on that.

This was their only chart hit, btw, until "Little Bit of Bad" came out in '94. Hit #70 on the pop singles chart.

Famed NYC DJ Dan Ingram used to make that joke virtually *every* time he played it (and it got played a LOT that summer on Top 40 WABC). Amazing some of the stuff he got away with.

A most remarkable TANC: Literally this morning, I sent a review to an indie artist named Stuart D'Rozario.  His sound reminded me of Al Stewart -- thin, crisp, reedy voice -- and one song had backing vocals *just like these* on APAS, and I told him so.  How weird for it to come up on the dial the same day.

I was just thinking, while listening to the replay, how much I'd enjoy hearing Ben Folds or Linus of Hollywood cover this.  Or, hell, Jellyfish, who've impersonated Sir Paul on more than one occasion.

And I was just thinking how much Jon Brion's singing style resembles whichever Hudson Bro is singing lead on this song. Which, of course, resembles all of the above.
