I *STILL* don't get the significance of all the "LB" initials in the REM song. WTF?

it's all about the breakdown with the colored girls. around this time, i started substituting chaka's voice for every colored girl in the background.

for colored girls... who have considered Michael Stipe... when the End of the World is... ENUF!

I wish dave would play Cher (the singer) half as often as he plays Cher (the Oscar clip).

not for nothin', someone asked me the other day if mr. stipe was "sickly." i admitted i'd thought he was positive since the early nineties, but i couldn't figure out why i thought so...still can't. maybe it was just a sign 'o the time.

And, just as fortunately, they don't exist today.

ETA:  There appears to be a Concrete Blonde song called "Still in Hollywood".  Dat's probably it.

It's a long-standing rumor, since "Losing My Religion" was widely seen as a song about (metaphorically) sero-converting.

That question's been floating around for a number of years--he's looked rather drawn for awhile now. But he seems to be carrying on, although I haven't heard of any REM activity for a couple years, and Pete Buck seems content playing bass with Scott McCaughey and the Minus 5 (or the Venus 3, if you're into Robyn Hitchcock).

Oooh, original version of Thing Called Love.  BOS to John Hiatt?

OTOH, might have to give BOS to Raising Arizona -- my wife's favorite movie.  Back for her 30th bday we rented a screen at our local art house theater and invited a bunch of our friends to watch it.

He's doing some big fund-raiser for an Indiana offshoot of FOTF (they're trying to make it illegal for gays to adopt in Indiana).  It's actually rather sad, since when his son committed suicide last year, the boy was described in numerous stories as an "unathletic", "artistic" kid who felt out-of-place and inadequate in a family that revolved around football. If those aren't code words for you-know-what, then I'm Ted Haggard.  The fundies are ramping up the "God's Team" nonsense this week, of course.  Funny, nobody called them "God's Team" when they choked against the Steelers a year ago...

and you being ted haggard isn't so far-off as it once seemed! :) ha! that's sad about his son. i tend to think of that sort of pressure as being antiquated. i mean, everyone can move to new york or sf these days. i didn't think anyone but the spanish and the amish still had strong family ties of that sort. shows how cushioned my life has become.

Oh, Jesus Fuck.  As soon as you mentioned FOTF, my first thought was Dungy's deceased son -- in my skewed reality, when I hear "teen suicide," I think "something in the identity must've made that parental love not so unconditional anymore," in other words, You Know What.

Sigh.  I thought the Saints were God's team this year?  God sucks at football anyway.
