I'll stay for you, baby! But if we hear Crowded House, all bets are off.

that's a given. i'd rather listen to the icelandic news report.
ugh..."end of the world" is placing the finger on the button. almost ready to push it.

Time I had some time alone, indeed...love this band but I have heard this song way too much.
And now it's Stang--ho hum.

"it's me, and you, and all the 'trinas too."
I *STILL* don't get the significance of all the "LB" initials in the REM song. WTF?

it's all about the breakdown with the colored girls. around this time, i started substituting chaka's voice for every colored girl in the background.

i never thought there was a point. i just figured "with alliteration, they'd get there."
did they mention LiBerace?

for colored girls... who have considered Michael Stipe... when the End of the World is... ENUF!
I wish dave would play Cher (the singer) half as often as he plays Cher (the Oscar clip).
-
Whaddawegot here? Not typical 87 fodder fer sure.
-
he doesn't give "kcuf"
he's livin' under a truck.
BOS this "Hollywood" rave-up.
-
vhm to "don't tell me no lies," because it's one of those songs i NEVER hear on european radio.
-
OK, this Still in Hollywood song--4 Non-Blondes or Concrete Blond? I always get those mixed up. Might be a BOS contender, either way--even with the clip job on "fcku".
-
did they mention LiBerace?
Leonid Breszhnev is not their style
And even Lee Berace's smile
Is something Stipe can't see...
-
BOS2, Satellites KYHTYS. Good ol' boy, tihs-kickin' music.
-
BOS2 Prince -- it's becoming a semi-regular since Dave discovered we actually like it.

not for nothin', someone asked me the other day if mr. stipe was "sickly." i admitted i'd thought he was positive since the early nineties, but i couldn't figure out why i thought so...still can't. maybe it was just a sign 'o the time.

4 non-blondes did not, to the best of my knowledge, exist in 1987.

And, just as fortunately, they don't exist today.
ETA: There appears to be a Concrete Blonde song called "Still in Hollywood". Dat's probably it.

Is something Stipe can't see...
Lord Byron can't hold a tune
And even Laura Brannigan's croon
Is something Mike can't be

It's a long-standing rumor, since "Losing My Religion" was widely seen as a song about (metaphorically) sero-converting.

That question's been floating around for a number of years--he's looked rather drawn for awhile now. But he seems to be carrying on, although I haven't heard of any REM activity for a couple years, and Pete Buck seems content playing bass with Scott McCaughey and the Minus 5 (or the Venus 3, if you're into Robyn Hitchcock).

ah-ha, but if they did exist today, perchance we would not have been subjected to the second coming of gwen stefani!
-
BOS3 Raising Arizona. Just a brilliant comedy.
"Git me a toddler!"
-
I'm tempted to BOS the Coen Brothers for the Raising Arizona clip. Holly Hunter when she was young and cute.

ha! nice one.
hm to holly hunter.
and i think this is only the second time i've heard (what i'm assuming to be) the original version of "thing called love." nice!
-
Oooh, original version of Thing Called Love. BOS to John Hiatt?
OTOH, might have to give BOS to Raising Arizona -- my wife's favorite movie. Back for her 30th bday we rented a screen at our local art house theater and invited a bunch of our friends to watch it.

Me too. A great scene. Did I tell you that the Coen brothers are my third cousins? Probably not. Hasn't netted me anything useful yet.
-
Sounds like a non-standard version of TCL. I've heard the Hiatt version before, and this is different.
WTG Darryl! Hitting the (C) Note!
And now, ladies and gentlemen, Crowded House.
-
shit! crowded house!
-
Made it all the way to the end of the set before wheeling out the CH. See ya, Mike!

No argument there. But this is even less popular than the version Hiatt came out with. Just saying it's a third version. Get it?

I'll tuff it out for the princess' sake.
Princess, will you be staying up late to watch the Super Bowl? This Tony Dungy-in-bed-with-Focus-on-the-Family story has kinda got me pissed off about rooting for the Colts.

oh, gosh - i didn't even get that! you meant "c-note" like a rapper means it. i thought you meant like beethoven. i was trying to figure out if john hiatt had a backing singer named "darryl."

He's doing some big fund-raiser for an Indiana offshoot of FOTF (they're trying to make it illegal for gays to adopt in Indiana). It's actually rather sad, since when his son committed suicide last year, the boy was described in numerous stories as an "unathletic", "artistic" kid who felt out-of-place and inadequate in a family that revolved around football. If those aren't code words for you-know-what, then I'm Ted Haggard. The fundies are ramping up the "God's Team" nonsense this week, of course. Funny, nobody called them "God's Team" when they choked against the Steelers a year ago...

because god doesn't choke, of course.
and you being ted haggard isn't so far-off as it once seemed! :) ha! that's sad about his son. i tend to think of that sort of pressure as being antiquated. i mean, everyone can move to new york or sf these days. i didn't think anyone but the spanish and the amish still had strong family ties of that sort. shows how cushioned my life has become.

Oh, Jesus Fuck. As soon as you mentioned FOTF, my first thought was Dungy's deceased son -- in my skewed reality, when I hear "teen suicide," I think "something in the identity must've made that parental love not so unconditional anymore," in other words, You Know What.
Sigh. I thought the Saints were God's team this year? God sucks at football anyway.

get your head out of someone else's ass - the saints haven't been god's team since the 12th of never.

No, no, no -- they were "America's Team" this year. And Spike Lee's.
