"I Have the Touch" is an instant BOS contender for me! Like this so much more than "Shock the Monkey".

indeed -- the year the Brit New Wave "invasion" really took off (this, Human League, Heaven 17...)
OMFG! BOS "Town Called Malice"!!
a hundred lonely housewives clutch empty milk bottles to their hearts...
-
BOS for the Jam. Always a contendah.

VHM Mick'n'Keef, standin' in a doorway.

Strictly British set so far (or am I spacing something--entirely likely)?
Gabriel, Haircut, Jam, Stones--was there something else played so far?
-
ooh hoo woo hoo, ooh hoo woo hoo woo hoo!
not my favorite Stones tune, but sounding mighty fine today for some reason. BOS #3

indeed and now Simple Minds (well, UK at any rate).
-
VHM for the less-played Simple Minds (right?).

Great Britain includes Scotland, the UK includes No. Ireland.

less-played? I'd say this is a frequent flyer if not a borderline K.

Well, shows what I know. It's not "Don't Forget About Me", so there you go. Would be nice to hear "New Gold Dream" sometime.

I think he means compared to Don't You Forget About Me or Alive and Kicking.
OK, Cars--the all-UK streak has ended. And a solid WOS contender to boot.

So Van Morrison would keep the streak going, but U2 wouldn't.
I'm sure there must be other bands from Belfast or Northern Ireland, but damned if I can name any.

I know Super Hit Six... Super Hit Six is a friend of mine... Dave, this Cars tune is no Super Hit Six.

Back to the UK for a "Confess"-ion. Cards on the tabletop!
-
BOS #4, "I Confess", one of my top 5 break up songs of all-time, with a great trumpet solo & a fistful of great lines:
...I've done too much of both kinds of whining...
...being dead don't hurt, no, only dying...
...I could have phoned, I could have spoke, but how to break the news without breaking your heart?
...it's not a joke, it's cards-on-the-table time...
...please get out! I know I'm shouting, I like to shout!
-

methinks we have a mondegreen here.
-
speaking of great lyrics, this is one of my favorites of the entire decade:
I tried my imagination, but I was disturbed.

well, it's not like it's a million miles away from the actual line...

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAL!

well, IMHO this set could've used a couple of black people:
Junior, "Mama Used to Say"
Gap Band, "You Dropped a Bomb"
Kool & the Gang, "Get Down on It"
Atlantic Starr, "Circles"
Everlyn "Champagne" King, "Love Come Down"
Ray Parker Jr, "The Other Woman"

VHM Tommy Tutone... and another for Talk Talk.
Did anybody ever try and call the number on the Tommy Tutone song? The 867 was a 408 area code back then. I called it once and some man answered. I didn't have the guts to ask for Jenny so I just hung up. I know the number was real and Tommy Tutone is supposedly from the Bay Area. I wonder if that number in the 408 area code (which would be South Bay) was Jenny's number.
Also, wasn't the Golden Earring song from 1983 and not 1982?

You are correct -- at least that's when it was a hit single. Dunno when the LP was released.

Dave can't have it both ways, the Stones LP came out fall of '81, but "Waiting" charted in '82.

Sure he can--it's his show, he can make the rules and break 'em whenever he takes a mind to.

BOS to the Jam and Simple Minds, with HM to Golden Earring, Dave's way of reminding us that Beejmas is just around the corner.
